Re: Official The Sims 3 Thread

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">The Sims 3, announced at the Electronic Arts press conference with a short, tantalizing trailer, was sadly not on display anywhere on the E3 show floor. But we did have the opportunity to speak with Rod Humble from Maxis, the brains behind the entire Sims juggernaut. From SimCity to My Sims to the newly announced SimAnimals, Humble oversees dozens of products on every major platform. He's also deeply involved with The Sims 3, a game that millions of eager fans are waiting for.

During the conference we had a chance to talk with Humble about all of his ongoing projects, including his work with the indie gaming scene. But we'll save a transcript of the full interview for another time. Today we wanted to focus on Sims 3. We learned a great deal about the expansive world, the unique personality system, and more. We pick it up in the middle of the interview:

Fargo: I definitely wanted to talk to you about Sims 3. It was displayed briefly at the Electronic Arts press conference, but it's not being shown on the show floor, correct?

Rod Humble: Right.

Fargo: So for all the fans out there who've invested a lot of time in Sims 2, what would you say the big selling points are with Sims 3? What's going to make people hungry to upgrade?

Humble: We've brought in a lot of Sims 2 players to play Sims 3 as we've been developing it -- 'cuz we're not going to mess this one up! [Laughs] -- so we're pretty confident we're delivering what our customers want. We're definitely Sims players as well, and the first thing we did was take away things that annoyed us.

Fargo: Such as?

Humble: The biggest thing that annoyed us, frankly, were the loading times. "Why am I stuck on this lot?" The power to be able to just see what your neighbors are doing -- things are happening around the whole town -- is huge. You get these ripple effects: "Why is this person running down the street? Oh! There was a car accident they're running away from. And now they're bumping into that person..." You see these ripple effects happen, and it's a real, simulated little world. It's really cool!

I'd say that a lot of our customers are really interested in making things in the game and customization. We've made it a lot easier to upload to the exchange [the online Sims content repository]. We've also deepened the ability to customize objects. So if you want to change the pattern on this table to, let's say, the texture of my trousers, you can do that. Not only that, but you can map it to the wallpaper, and even your car. We have lots of furry cars that people are building, like tiger-skinned cars! So you can do it to just about everything.

Fargo: You can mix and match items and textures, then upload the results?

Humble: Right, and you can say, "I want this [texture] on all of my objects," and it'll match it up. We also have a little algorithm where if you have a color of a palette -- like the red on this Altoids tin [he holds up a tin of mints] -- then you can ask, "What's a good match with this?" And the game will actually calculate on the fly the colors that match and are in good taste.

I'm really ambivalent about it, because, you look at it and you're like, "Holy crap! That's amazing!"

Fargo: It turns anyone into a professional interior decorator.

Humble: Yeah, it's computer-generated good taste. On the other hand, you're like, "Wait a minute, computers can do that? Isn't that something that only human beings were meant to be able to do?" It's a little worrying. But I'm hoping that people will adjust and learn to embrace bad taste, you know, just to screw with the algorithm.

Fargo: At the EA press conference you talked a little about unique character personalities in Sims 3. Tell me more!

Humble: In Sims 2 we had six things that went into your Sim. And we added a little bit of personality with the horoscope. But there was really just the one aspiration [for each Sim], otherwise they were pretty much all the same. But with The Sims 3 we have dozens, dozens of traits that you can randomly generate. And they affect the world. So, your sim may have a fear of commitment. Or they may prefer the color green. They may be attracted to people who are stocky. They may be into books. All of those things add up to a little person, and they all have an impact in the game. It's really great to watch!

You sit there, hitting the "random" button on a Sim, and as well as the physical appearance, you're getting this list of a little person. And it reads like "Want" ads.

Fargo: Like from the Personals section of the newspaper?

Humble: Yeah!

Fargo: "I like long walks on the beach. No dogs..."

Humble: Yeah and you're like, "I want to know that person" or "That person sounds weird..." And it all adds up in the game to a really powerful effect.

Fargo: Give me an example?

Humble: So I was playing the game and one of my sims collected books. And my books went missing. So I flagged it as a bug. Then the designers asked me, "Are you friends with Jeff?" And I was like, "Well, yeah I am." They said: "Jeff's a kleptomaniac."

Sure enough, I went over to Jeff's house, and there were my books! It was just one of those moments where I was like, "That's really cool!" It all snowballs. Then you see stuff that Jeff's stolen from other people around town: "Where did that come from?"

In addition to that, the characters, instead of just having "I want to go to the bathroom" or "I like my house being clean" -- well, we've removed that. You no longer 75% want to go to the bathroom. You either want to go or want to go really really badly.

Fargo: No more stat bars? It's all done through the "wants" system now, similar to the Sims 2 system of wants and fears?

Humble: Yeah but it's kind of deeper now. You can have as many [wants] as you want, they compress down there. [The new system] is similar to buffs in role-playing games. You can tell exactly what your sim is thinking. So, if your sim is crying, then there'll be a little thing that says, "I'm crying because I was in the rain, and I'm cold." And you can say, "Oh, now I get it." Or "I'm crying because my best friend isn't my friend anymore." These things add up, and it's this nice little look into their metaphysical life.

Fargo: You really get to look into their heads?

Humble: It's just really nice to see it all add up. I have a far greater emotional attachment to these sims.

Fargo: It sounds like this time around they're more like real people, rather than just a collection of stats.

Humble: Yeah, yeah.

Fargo: When are you pushing to release?

Humble: Next year. But we haven't given a time frame.

Fargo: I wanted to talk briefly about the online store, as well. This is already running with Sims 2, right?

Humble: Yes it is.

Fargo: Is that kind of like microtransactions? Buying individual pieces of furniture?

Humble: Yeah, you can get individual items. But what we discovered is that people love our "stuff" packs, and they want more of them... So we've tried to make it easier just to be able to buy exactly what they want, instead of buying just our collections. So now the experience is more seamless.

Fargo: What's that mean for the future of the franchise? Are you still going to do big expansion packs? Or will future expansions just focus on gameplay additions?

Humble: We haven't gone into detail, but what we're trying to do, is we're trying to make smaller packs so people can get just what they want. That's the feedback we have: Our [gameplay] systems are adding up and becoming this big... thing... and people say "I just wanted that bit from Night Life and that bit from Open for Business..." So we're trying to enable that? We'll see if we can pull it off.

Fargo: At this point, how involved is Will Wright in the Sims games?

Humble: He hasn't been for years. He's been focused on his baby.

Fargo: Spore?

Humble: Spore. You know, creatively, he's really generous. He's a great guy. I don't think I could step back the way he has, and just say, "You know what? Go for it! Fly free!" He's always supportive. It's really great to see that. I'm not sure I could do that.

Fargo: As a game designer, you get attached to your "baby."

Humble: Yeah! You know, "Dude, what are you doing? I would never do that!" But no, Will's been doing his own thing for years.

[From there, our conversation moved on to other games (including SimAnimals) and then to deeper topics, such as exploring the idea of making games for creative people and the ramifications of the indie gaming scene on the industry as a whole. Stick around GameSpy for the full interview transcript after E3 is over, and look forward to more Sims 3 coverage in the year to come!]</div>

<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">On Friday, July 18th 2008, Tug and I visited EA Redwood Shores (for the second time in 6 weeks), this time to have a first preview of The Sims 3! The game was not shown at E3 this week and was only represented by the official video released to coincide with the event. The information that will be published here and by our fellow fans that attended the event will be your very first detailed look at the game and is exclusive to our communities, even before the big gaming magazines and websites get near it!

Unlike one of my usual in-depth previews, things will be a little different this time around. Here you will find bullet pointers and notes that I took during the event which have been somewhat hurried together in preparation of our live chat, held the day after the event and hosted by myself and Tug from Redwood Shores.

Unfortunately there were many aspects of the game that developers were unable to talk about for varying reasons. Some features are simply not developed yet, others were buggy and anything at all to do with custom content was taboo this time around. Obviously very much more solid detail will be released nearer the 2009 release and later this year when custom content is finalised and work starts on building out the tools.

In the meantime though, take a look at all the juicy details of the things that we do know and join us in the live chat if you are in time, or in our new Sims 3 discussion forums to discuss all things good (and bad) about The Sims 3.

I can tell you also that the game is far from Alpha, so if you have any desperate issues with features or really want to see something specific in the game, be sure to discuss it. EA will be sniffing around the community to see what people are saying and are still taking on board feedback that can influence final game tuning.

If the notes don't make a huge amount of sense to you, I'll try and clear things up in my summary at the end :-)

Disclaimer stuff: As usual, this preview has been written based on an early build of the game, so some of the content I talk about might be different in the final version.

Introduction

All info points are numbered so that you can refer to them when commenting in the chat or forums.

1) Ben Bell, Senior Producer of Sims 3 opened the demos by giving us a brief outline of the major changes between Sims 2 and 3. TS3 offers a richer, deeper experience with more emotional characters (Sims) with real depth to their personalities. The new world (or environment) is interactive and comes to life in front of your very eyes.

2) Thanks to new attributes, each Sim will be virtually unique in its behaviour, attitude, looks and even sounds! EA called this the 'snowflake effect'.

3) Wishes replace wants - more dynamic to actual life experiences.

4) The town is fully customizable and allows you to remove and change Lots and Sims.

5) Young adult is the new default age and is changed to represent life between 18 and 30 years.

6) Adult now considered more 'middle age' and includes wrinkles.

7) The Town Centre plays a large part in gameplay and building socials.

8) The town is made of 'functional, plopable public buildings' as well as your own made homes and services.

9) Some old service NPC's remain and are joined by some new ones.

New Gameplay

10) No loner individual Lots, player have realtime access to the 'Open World'

11) No Loading when changing Lots or families, as the simulator is running for all Sims, all the time.

12) Everything in the game happens for a reason. If someone moves is across the street it's part of the dynamic population management and not some random action.

13) The base game with ship with several types of ownable cars.

14) Magical valet parking (car fades in and out) on all Lots and streets.

15) Job aspects that you can do at home called 'opportunities'.

16) Day/Night transitions over the town.. light changes and shadows move across the ground as the sun goes up/down.

17) Teenagers sneak out at dusk and can be seen around town acting suspiciously.

18) Quick click icons on Sims face in UI to go quickly send them to work or home.

19) "Map Tags" float over areas of the hood - a quick way to find your way around.

20) Sims also have Map Tags so you can find them easily

21) Can buy an empty bookcase and buy books in the game. There are lots of books!

22) Can still get jobs from newspapers and online or browse the city and apply to workplaces near the home.

23) Sims can move nearer to their place of work, or even find work near home to reduce travelling time.

24) Currently an 8 Sims per family limit.

25) Next to the mood bar is a small bonus bar

26) Socials are now more important.. not just good and bad

27) New timeline dragbar which is specific to a few interactions. This lets you control how long a Sim spends on certain tasks like sleeping, fishing etc…

28) High level logic allows a Sim to tutor other Sims - Cooking unlocks recipes (Moodlets like divine food) - Fishing unlocks bigger fish (Caught fish can be put in an aquarium at home, and even given a name)

29) Careers have more gameplay - No longer just sent to work - Can now decide how hard to work - You can choose a less stressful day but will gain less skill - You could sacrifice hard work for doing more socializing at the workplace

30) Specific homework tasks for kids, like read a certain book or catch a certain fish.

31) Moodlets replace memories.

32) Moodlets are icons in the UI and are based on activities and events that are happening that day (moving home, being comfortable, getting married, having a kids etc.)

33) Moodlets give an insight into why a Sim is acting the way it is.

34) Brush teeth is back - Gives a "minty breath" moodlet.

35) Cell phone notification system to noify you of opportunities and can be used for contacts etc. All Sims have one.

36) Funds and worth as 2 separate values now (worth includes property and object values)

37) Difficulty levels per family (suggest how hard a family is to play based on personalities etc)

Create a Sim (Version 3)

38) Now includes far more behavioural traits and changes as well as visual stuff.

39) Facial detail (now includes moles).

40) Hair includes 4 layers: Roots, Base, Tips, Highlights. You can choose any color to apply to these 4 layers and can be saved as a preset.

41) Eye color by any RGB (freeform color pallet) and can also be saved as a preset.

42) You can now choose shoes which will locked to your chosen outfits.

43) Foot shape changes with show style (high heels, flat sandals etc.)

44) Gloves, socks and stockings, jewellery (rings, bracelets, earrings).

45) Change voice and even pitch so thousands of unique vocal sounds. You will be able to recognise by sound which Sim is talking!

46) "Loves" list in personality (Classical, Belgian Waffles for example).

47) Favourites: Music, Food and maybe Colour (in the game now but may be removed).

48) Stronger moodlets when eating or listening to a favourite.

Sim Behaviour

49) Traits make up a Sim's true personality like never before! Traits are like atoms: you choose a mixture to generate unique personalities.

50) Sims can acquire traits. Limited at start but can develop more. Could in theory have all traits that don't contradict each other.

51) Approximately 75 different traits, for example: Insane, dreamer, hates outside, genius, angler, absent minded, excitable, heavy sleeper, childish, artistic, handy, rude, green thumb, no sense of humour, virtuoso, computer wiz, snob, sweet talker, mean spirited, party animal, dislikes children, boring, anti TV, flirty, schmoozer, frugal, wollywart, hot headed, can't stand art, easily bored, mooch, loner, shy

52) Young Adult and up have 5 traits, Teen have 4 traits, Kids have 3 traits, Toddler has 2 traits.

53) Inappropriate trait Sims for example, will use other people fridge's and might walk around in underwear.

54) Mean Spirited trait Sims will be happier the more enemies they have.

55) Excitable trait Sims get excited when you tell them to do something.

56) Sim thought bubble in UI more detailed than before ("thought Cindy was being funny")

57) Green bars: Influenced by moodlets and needs. Now only have 4 icons for needs: Bed, Toilet, Entertainment, Food.

58) "Wishes" replace wants and shows what a Sim is thinking that she wants to achieve, like a certain career path. These are relevant to what is going on at that time. If on her way to the park she might want to meet a guy for example.

59) Lots of 'wishes' opportunities will arise and you get to choose to fulfil it or ignore it. You can just do the ones that interest you. They cycle frequently so should come up again.

60) New socials like "Change topic of conversation". Options are contextual. If you get a new job you can talk about that - Visit a Sim in a new home you can talk about that.

61) Athletic skills can help Sims stay fitter and even live longer.

Build &amp; Buy

62) Free placement of objects allows you to put things exactly where you want them.

63) Grid option to help with room design and placement.

64) Can move around quarter tiles, so can centre a 3 tile couch to a 1 or 2 tile TV.

65) Hang TV's and pictures on diagonal walls with sofas in front on an angle too.

66) Hold ALT key for freeform movement allowing full 360 degree rotation and placement.

67) Place multi tile objects up against diagonal walls.

68) Table and chairs link and can move as 1 object (same with beds and end tables)

69) Decorative slots on surfaces - can place a vase almost anywhere on a table, not just centred.

70) Multiple decorative items on 1 surface (as long as they don't overlap).

71) Adjustable stair width slider (place 4 tile wide stairs in one action for example).

72) 'Auto Roof' now fixes the shape when you add/change walls.

73) No specific basement level but easier to make than Sims 2.

74) Drag out an area to delete multiple items.

75) Can move the house to a bigger Lot (upgrade as funds allow)

76) Upper wall cabinets in kitchens.

77) 5 floor limit on Lots including a foundation.

78) Parking spaces rather than garages. Parking spaces can also be rotated 360 degrees and places anywhere on the Lot. Can be enclosed on 3 sides but no garage doors (yet). Car fades in/out, doesn't drive off the lot

79) Land values based on more than just size, waterfront/beach etc.

80) Trees and shrubs sway in the breeze!

81) Plants and trees can be placed in dense layouts (overlapping).

82) Water reflection and ripple effect.

83) Moveable Mailbox on Lot. Place it where you like.

Conclusions

Mind-blowing! That was the consensus among the fans that saw the game being played today. There were many reservations about just how different or how much better Sims 3 would be compared to Sims 2.

The biggest thing is the depth of character each Sims has, the way they really are unique. And of course the open world environment where you can play and juggle every family you ever created in the same world, at the same time. And of course the power to build your lot exactly how you want it, and place your furnishing exactly where you want to place them. Full 360 degree rotation is so amazing!

You can't follow Sims to work (why would you) but you do get to decide how they will spend their day... Working hard, schmoozing with the boss, building relations or taking it easy!

And that's true for much of Sim life. You really do have much more control over the way a Sim will live its life on a day to day basis.

I'm not going to jabber on any more now.. I'm rushing this out so I can join the chat and get stuck in the fans discussing all this juicy detail that we have been waiting so long for... let the discussions begin!

My thanks as always to the team at EA for the opportunity and information, and to Tug and my Sims Community colleagues who attended, making the day informative and enjoyable once again.

As we develop The Sims 3, I have to say that playing with the new Create A Sim completely captures my attention! You can hit the random button and create Sims with unique personalities, as well as incredibly varied appearances. It’s hypnotic sitting there generating little beings with unique physical and mental traits. I just generated a Sim who is a computer wiz, has commitment issues, is easily impressed and can't stand art. He likes Latin Music and his Favourite food is Key Lime Pie. All of those mental traits have an impact in the game world.

He looks like this...

Howdy! My name is JoAnna. One of the parts of The Sims 3 game that I produce is the town that you'll experience. We're having a blast creating this place for you! The town sits in a cozy cove that has everything from a beach and rocky coastline to mountains and farm land. The neighborhoods that extend through these areas all have their own style and feel. The place where your Sims live actually makes a difference. If you pick one of the smaller houses behind the town hall, they’ll have quick access to the activity of the town center, but their surroundings won’t be as nice as the coastal lots nestled among the pine trees. If you decide you want your Sims to live up on Summer Hill, they’ll have scenic vistas and colorful, wealthy neighbors for sure, but they’ll have to earn enough money to build there and they’ll spend more time in the car commuting to work.

Each occupied house is also tailored for the Sims who live in it. For example, Mrs. Crumplebottom's home is stoic with its modern, monochromatic furniture. The Bunch house reflects practicality over style, accommodating the family’s four kids of all ages. And if you’re looking for a special home to go on a particular plot of land that boasts your favorite view, you can find an array of different houses in the in-game "library". Browse through the collection and then plop the house you want right into the town. You'll also be able to modify any location, from decorating the yard with flamingos to bulldozing and rebuilding from the ground up, to replacing the family, or refurnishing it with retro ‘70s-themed furniture. One of my favorite houses is an ultra-tacky “starter home” that features a corrugated metal roof, mismatched wallpaper, a camo-covered living room set, zebra-print bedspreads, and even chain-link fence for the concrete yard.

Like the houses, all of the town residents also get a full design treatment. They have back stories, unique personality traits, relationships with Sims throughout the town, fully-designed wardrobes, detailed faces, careers, and more—everything to make them evolving, living citizens. Some are old, some are young, some are expecting, some are in love, some are slackers, some are rising stars, and some are simply looking for their place in the world.

When you’re ready to strike out beyond the surrounding neighborhood, the town center is ready and waiting! Your Sims can swim with friends at the public pool or throw a birthday party there. If your Sims want to work out and meet other athletic Sims, they can make the gym their regular stop. Art-loving Sims can visit the art gallery for inspiration and you can even replace the art there with paintings by your Sims! The bustling park is one of the most popular hang outs with its convenient fishing spots and an open green space that is perfect for picnics, barbeques, and games of catch. I don’t know if I’m just a nerd, but I especially like the town library that sits off the corner of the park. Maybe it’s the study areas surrounded by regal bookshelves or the grand central staircase or the kid’s play area in the west wing… or maybe it’s the Power Study moodlet my Sims get when they do their homework there.

Well, hopefully this gives you an idea of some of the fun places you’ll find around town in The Sims 3. I really hope you enjoy discovering the town and all of us here on the team really look forward to seeing what you do with it! Thanks for reading!

So none of these graphics are impressing me. It's what The Sims 2 should've been years ago, we should still be years away from another Sims 3.. but oh well. It'll always be one step behind the graphics.. lol.

The Sims = Casual Market. EA not going to make The Sims look and than require a Crysis type PC. They want everyone to be able to run the game not just the hardcore market.

Game doesn't need to be the best looking PC game on the market.

IGN Interview: IGN Video: The Sims 3 PC Games Interview - Sims 3 Video Interview (http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/802129/the-sims-3/videos/sims3_interview_011609.html)

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">I was about 10 minutes into playing The Sims 3 when I realized something quite astonishing: my sims hadn't gone to the bathroom yet. And despite still having virtual bladders, they didn't need to constantly heed the call of nature. Now if you played The Sims and The Sims 2, you will remember that you had to handhold your sims' lives; this includes each and every bathroom break, which seemingly occur every minute or two in game time. That's a lot of flushing. Yet, here I was, at EA, playing The Sims 3 and discovering that what the designers have been promising seems to be true: The Sims 3 is a much broader game than its predecessors, more concerned with telling stories than with focusing on the ordinary minutiae of everyday life.

Despite the fact that it's the latest chapter in the most successful PC franchise of all time (100 million copies sold in the franchise and counting), The Sims 3 almost feels a bit like a stealth project. EA has been working quietly on the game for four years; not even revealing its existence until last year. (Maxis, an EA studio and the original studio behind The Sims, handed off the franchise to the team at EA Redwood Shores a while ago.) I got a sneak peak at The Sims 3 back when it was announced, but that was it; I hadn't seen the game since March. Earlier this week I not only got a refresh on the game, but I had the chance to play it for the first time. I didn't get a lot of play time, mind you, but I did get enough to get a tantalizing glimpse of the brave new world, or, in The Sims 3's case, the brave new town.

The first thing of course is sim creation. The new create-a-sim has a cleaner look and has some nifty new options, but it should be familiar to series veterans. You again select gender and age, and then tinker with sliders to mold facial features, select hairstyles and colors, clothes, and so on. Without going into too much detail, there's a much greater amount of control here. This goes from being able to tweak hair colors to pretty much any color in the gradient, as well as tweaking highlights and other such things. You can adjust body weight as well as overall musculature, but height is still off limits. The sims' age ranges go from infant, toddler, child, teen young adult, adult, to elder. Sims still age, so an infant will grow up, grow old, and eventually die in the great circle of virtual life, but there's a slider that lets you adjust the sims' life spans. (The current maximum life span is about 1,000 days.)

Another nifty new feature is the ability to basically create cloth patterns and even textures on clothes, and then dragging-and-dropping those patterns onto other clothes. It's possible to create matching wardrobes, right down the shoes. Everything that you create can be saved and eventually shared with others. And, before I transition to the big game changer--personalities--one welcome change is the ability to match different hair styles to clothes. In the previous games, hair styles didn't change unless you went through a tedious process, so if you had a sim wearing a baseball cap, he or she wore that cap with everything, including formal clothes. Now you can associate different hair styles to different outfits, so you can have the nicely coifed hair for the formal wear, but the more shaggy or casual hair for everyday outfits.

While these are all mostly cosmetic changes, the big change to create-a-sim is the removal of the old messy/neat sliders and the addition of personality traits. You can pick up to five personality traits per sim, and this will modify his or her behavior appropriately. There are a lot of traits, stuff like evil, brave, coach potato, hopeless, perfectionist, natural cook. (Executive Producer Ben Bell likes to mention that they got many of the traits by going over online personal ads and picking popular descriptions people like to use.) You can make people as deep or shallow as you'd like depending on the type and number of traits. The traits that you pick also play a big role in helping to determine your sims' wishes. Each sim has a lifelong wish to work towards, like becoming an astronaut or assembling the perfect aquarium.

Once you're done with creating your sim or a family of sims, it's time to drop down into the game. The Sims 3 will launch with a town called Sunrise Valley, a small, picturesque burg tucked in between mountains and ocean. Sunrise Valley has plenty of homes and a small downtown core; when your sims move in you can choose to purchase an existing home or build a new home in many of the expansion plots tucked away in the hills. In a nice, time-saving move, when you purchase a home you can choose to buy it empty or furnished; the furnished option costs more, of course. Sunrise Valley has plenty of recreational areas, like a big park and the beach and even a stadium. There are even fishing holes tucked up in the woods, as well as a cemetery to bury old sims and to provide a supernatural element, aka ghosts. It sounds like you won't be able to create a brand new town from scratch, but you can rearrange the buildings in Sunrise Valley.

As you may know, the big new feature in The Sims 3 is that it busts out of the single-lot-at-a-time gameplay of its predecessors. In The Sims and The Sims 2, whenever your sims left their homes or a downtown lot, you encountered a load screen. In The Sims 3, the entire town is simulated simultaneously; there are no loads. This opens up a lot more gameplay, as life is no longer fixed in one location. I had one sim get a job in the army; he could have simply picked up the newspaper and looked for a job that way, but I simply told him to hail a cab (he could also jump in a car, if he owned one), and I followed the cab as it drove through the town and up to the army base in the hills, where he jumped out and got an introductory job cleaning latrines. That's Army strong, all right. Meanwhile, I told his female roommate to get a job in the music career, which meant having her go downtown and sign up at the local theater.

While all this is happening, the rest of the sims in town are leading their lives. For instance, while travelling past the park you might see a big birthday celebration going on for one of the town's inhabitants. You'll find interesting detours to explore, like maybe hunting for one of those fishing holes in the mountains. Suddenly, the whole town is your playground, and I found it easy to control both sims. It certainly helps that the AI is robust enough that if you're not controlling a sim directly, he or she will take care of themselves. So they may go to the bathroom if they need, or take a shower, or get some food, without you prompting them. Their personalities will also affect what they choose to do, and how they interact with other sims. So instead of getting just random actions, the goal is to have a town where people are actually trying to live their lives.

Oh, by the way, that old trick about getting a sim to be your friend by alternating between gossip and chat about 30 times is no more. EA wouldn't say exactly how, but that has been changed. Now you're going to have to work a bit more at actually making friends.

What I didn't get a good look at yet was the way you share items in the game. EA isn't showing that off yet, but it won't be some kind of Spore-like, in-game content browser. Part of the reason is, as Bell notes, people don't want to share literally everything they make in the game with others. So you can pick and choose what you want to share, whether it be your sims, clothes, furniture, and more. And the sharing mechanism will be a special Web page.

Meanwhile, this is the age of Internet video, and you can (like in The Sims 2) record gameplay. That same Web page will also allow you to edit your videos and create mashups that you can share with others or post on video sites such as YouTube. We'll get more details regarding all of this later on.

The Sims 3 might not convert those who don't play The Sims, but then again, it probably doesn't need to. There are plenty of fans out there, voracious for new content judging by the sales success of the many expansions for The Sims 2. What The Sims 3 shows is a healthy growth in the direction of the gameplay. After all, the big leap from The Sims 2 from The Sims was basically going from 2D to 3D graphics; for the most part the gameplay was essentially the same. That formula has remained in place for almost a decade now, so it's time for an update. The Sims 3 looks to shake things up in a good way.</div>

The pick-up line which worked so well on Pauline may not work quite so well on Bessie Clavell, who has no sense of humor whatsoever! As you socialize with them, you get to learn their personality quirks, and should use this to your advantage.</span>

<span style="font-size:.83em">Sunset Valley is a town full of individuals. If you spend a bit of time watching the Sims’ autonomous behavior, you start to get a feeling for what they’re like. Madison Watson is sweet, but perhaps a little immature. The Frio brothers may have a nice house, but they have personality issues which make them less than ideal as boyfriend material. </span>

<span style="font-family:'Trebuchet MS'"><span style="font-size:.83em">http://thesims3.ea.com/images/richard_evans_2.jpg</span></span>

<span style="font-size:.83em">Having so many Sims in the town, each with his own individual personality, creates a combinatorial explosion. Sometimes, what looks like a coding problem turns out to be an unexpected side-effect of the Sim’s personality. Recently, a tester had invited another Sim over to her house. Now the AI makes sure that the guest’s autonomous behavior is appropriate based on his relationship level with the host – someone you barely know won’t turn up and start cooking food in your house, but a good friend is allowed to do so. But on this occasion, the guest came straight into the house, walked upstairs and went to sleep! After much debugging and soul-searching, the problem turned out not to be a problem with the code, but with the guest’s personality – she was insane, and therefore impervious to the norms of social propriety!</span>

<span style="font-size:.83em">As well as the individual Sims, the town itself has its own separate needs. It wants people to come to work in the morning; it wants the public spaces to be neither too empty nor too full. And, longer term, as old Sims die out and new Sims are born, the town wants to keep the right sort of population density, and a reasonable ratio of male to female Sims. My colleague Peter Ingebretson has done an amazing job at keeping the world progressing over long periods of time. That’s just a sneak peek at the new level of AI that you’ll find in The Sims 3. We hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed creating it.</span></div>

Re: Official The Sims 3 Thread

I'm definitely getting this.. whenever that is. I wonder if my old ATI card I bought when I upgraded to the sims 2 will work for this one too. If not, I bought a new one.. which isn't anything too special either. Which brings me to, I wonder if I'll need to buy a new card for it.

Sims World, General &amp; Neighbourhood - Get the low down on The Sims 3

<ul class="bbcode_list">
Seamless Neighbourhood, no longer will there be multiple neighbourhoods such as Down Town, Vacation etc...
Load Time when moving around the neighbourhood has been eliminated
A whole town to explore, includes Neighbours, Shops and Recreation
Play pranks on the neighbour
Follow Sims while on their way to work.
The Sims Town is now compared to the engine which runs SimCity, but on a much larger scale
Close to 90 houses in the town, each with its own family.
When released only include 1 neighbourhood, but the developers plan to release a tool at a later stage to add more neighbourhoods.
They also have plans to include a neighbourhood editor to allow you to build your own town. But these will only be released after a few weeks of the game being released.
Everyone in the town will age together.
Confirmed community places are: Pool, Gym, Park, Bistro, Art gallery, Library, Clothing store, City Hall and Bookstore.
When the wind blows, you will be able to see the leave move on the trees.
Sims can enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
Seasons have not been confirmed in the base game, however it is expected that they will be an add-on feature in future expansions.
Wind however is a factor which will be available in the base game of The Sims 3.
Trees and shrubs sway in the breeze!
There is no longer a grid, all objects can be placed at any angle, ie, 360 degrees, this can be performed by holding ALT.
The town is fully customizable and allows you to remove and change Lots and Sims.
"Map Tags" float over areas of the hood - a quick way to find your way around.
Sims also have Map Tags so you can find them easily
Sims can move nearer to their place of work, or even find work near home to reduce travelling time.
Land values based on more than just size, waterfront/beach etc.
The Neighborhood stories and inhabitants will be a prequel to the Sims 1 Neighborhood.
You can move your entire house to a new (bigger) lot when your current lot gets too small.
You can slide in and our of your game to zoom on the netire neighbourhood or inspect a Sim walking in the street.
There are 2 kinds of buildings; Buildings that you can build yourself and look into, and buildings where your sim disapears into and re-appears after some time.
These buildings are ploppable; it means that you can just select them from a menu and put it in the Nhood all made and ready.
That Neighbourhood will consist of about 90 different lots.
Upon registering your game with EA, an additional neighbourhood will be activated on your game.
<span style="color:#FF0000">You don’t need to use all five character trait slots.</span>
<span style="color:#FF0000">You can buy houses furnished or unfurnished.</span>
<span style="color:#FF0000">You can set lifespans to range from 25–1,000 days.</span>
<span style="color:#FF0000">Some traits give you special abilities. They can be useful to improve skills (Artistic and Athletic traits, for example) and to get special interactions (childish sims can play with toys. Mooch sims can ask for food…).</span>
<span style="color:#FF0000">If you wish to, you can disable neighbourhood aging and events, so that Sims will not progress and marry/divorce etc without you telling the to do so.</span>

<ul class="bbcode_list">

Emotions, Expressions &amp; Looks - A new look at the happy and sad in life!

<ul class="bbcode_list">
There will no longer be "happy" or "sad", or even "furious", Sims will now have a new range of Emotions which they will follow allowing them to express themselves even more. The concept of a mood bar in the game has been thrown out and replaced with a set of icons which will show how your Sims feel, these are known as moodlets.
Events such as Teenagers First Kiss will make the Happy and Dreamy for a several days
Event such as being fired will make the Sim Gloomy for several days, or until they get a new job.
Special moods such as embarrassed and depressed are also part of the "moodlets" system.
Instead of fixed interaction (like Talk or Joke), the options are filtered on your current Mood or your Traits.
Sims can acquire Dreams. Like if your Sim sees that a Neighbour has a big tv, your Sim can get a Dream to want one too.

Wishes replace wants.

Sims no longer require persistent attention, instead they will attend to their needs themselves.
Fulfilling wishes of a Sim (like the wish to get a big screen tv, getting married, etc), gives you Lifetime Happiness points to buy Lifetime Rewards for your Sims. An example is Steel bladder (never pee again) and Haggler (All your shopping is cheaper).
There are about 30 different Rewards.

<span style="color:#FF0000">There’s a roof height slider.</span>
<span style="color:#FF0000">There’s a button that paints / carpets the entire room (instead of holding Shift).</span>

Most of the current Sims 2 cheats will be ported over to TS3, and a few new ones added.
<ul class="bbcode_list">
While most of the cheats will be Ported Over to Sims 3, they might change names. So typing in 'kaching' might not get you any money, but something like 'mullah' would. (Please note this is only an example, no cheats have been confirmed)
[/list]

Brushing of teeth is now back!
Cell phone notification system to noify you of opportunities and can be used for contacts etc
Funds and worth as 2 separate values now (worth includes property and object values)

Sims can do things that they couldn’t do before, like ride bikes, work out at the gym, go to the beach, grab a snack at the bistro and more!
A Lifetime Wish is a really big achievement like becoming a rock star, raising a huge family, getting rich or becoming an astronaut. Along the way to achieving your lifetime wish, you’ll fulfill smaller wishes. As you fulfill a Sim’s wishes, you earn points that can be used to purchase special Traits and reward objects that are generally hilarious and awesome.
All new party types have now been included, such as Afternoon BBQ.

[/list]
Did it get in? YES - Things you've wanted in the game are now there!

<ul class="bbcode_list">
All new modding tools built into the game

Medium of transport include Taxis, Cars and walking - Sims can now walk to and from work &amp; school.
The mailbox can now be moved.
There will be interesting characters, such as vampires and zombies - these have not been confirmed, so may not be exactly as in The Sims 2 Expansions.

There are over 70 personality traits that players can choose from. When you choose traits they are represented as a simple word that you might use to describe someone you know so it’s easy to understand what they will do in the game.

<span style="color:#000000">The MAC version will only be made after the game has been released for PC, so MAC users will have to wait a while...</span>

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">IN its biggest campaign yet for its biggest franchise, Electronic Arts is making The Sims video game a little more sociable.

The Sims lets players choose characters and create lives for them, selecting everything from when they sleep to what their bathroom looks like (“Sims” is short for “simulated”). Introduced in 2000, and updated in 2004, it became the best-selling line of PC-based video games in the world.

In The Sims 3, which goes on sale June 2, there are new features.

Previously, players could choose what Sims looked like; now they can choose their personality traits — neurotic, vain, loves to cook and so on. “What they want from life is determined by their personality traits,” said Benjamin Bell, the game’s executive producer.

“We really felt like the ability to create human beings, to give them a soul if you will, was really exciting, so we wanted to come up with some ways that people could define the personalities of their character,” Mr. Bell said.

And while the characters lived in a single household in earlier versions, they now live in a town. The game supplies characters that also live in the town, but players can create new citizens, change the existing ones, or remove them and replace them with, say, replicas of the cast of “Lost” to see what it is like to live next door to them.

•

Electronic Arts executives wanted the marketing campaign to showcase the new features of The Sims 3, and to get people who might not play the game to understand what it was about.

The focus of the marketing is online, and beginning Friday, Electronic Arts will begin offering three ways for consumers to play with Sims characters on the Web.

There will be a free trial available at Sims3.com (http://sims3.com/) and at the Sims 3 fan page on Facebook (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/facebook_inc/index.html?inline=nyt-org), meant for people who have never played the game before.

Another option, called SimFriend, lets visitors to the Web site pick a Sim pen pal from among 120 characters, and that pen pal will send e-mail messages. For example, a Sim might send a message asking what type of dinner she should cook for her boyfriend, and the fan picks from options like “Cook an elegant meal.” The e-mail chain would continue, tailored to the Sim’s personality and skills.

“If the Sim happens to be a kleptomaniac chef, the response you get back might be, ‘Thanks, I went and stole food today,’ when what you’re expecting is ‘Thanks, I just had lunch,’ ” said John Buchanan, senior director of worldwide marketing for the Sims line at Electronic Arts.

The third option is called SimSidekick. A fans chooses from 6 characters on the Web site, and an image of the character that is chosen floats on top of the browser as the fan moves around the Web.

The character has site-specific responses to sites that Electronic Arts has chosen, like MTV.com, YouTube (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/youtube/index.html?inline=nyt-org), and Twitter (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/twitter/index.html?inline=nyt-org). On Twitter, for instance, where the mascot is a bird, a flock of bluebirds descends on the character, and, depending on its personality, the character will jump, wave his or her hands, or respond in some other way.

On other sites, the SimSidekick software looks for the category of the Web site, like travel or news, and the character responds appropriately, acting like a sports fanatic on a site like ESPN.com (http://espn.com/), or looking like he’s searching for something on Google.com (http://google.com/).

The effort is reminiscent of what Skittles, the Mars (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/mars_inc/index.html?inline=nyt-org) candy brand, did this year with its Web site, showing a floating Skittles graphic on top of the browser that took visitors to the brand’s photos on Flickr or product pages on Facebook.

Sims characters will also come to life on the Viacom sites MTV.com, VH1.com and AddictingGames.com (http://addictinggames.com/), a game site, on June 2. Characters will move around text and graphics on pages of the sites. The game will also be promoted through an iPhone (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/subjects/i/iphone/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier) sampler application, available now (the full game will be available for purchase and play on the iPhone or iTouch on June 2; a Macintosh version will also be available then). Freestyle Interactive in San Francisco, part of the Isobar division of Aegis, worked on the digital advertising efforts.

But measuring whether these efforts are a hit or a flop is a challenge for Electronic Arts, which, like other marketers, hasn’t quite determined how to assess social media advertising. As Microsoft (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/microsoft_corporation/index.html?inline=nyt-org) marketing executive Mich Mathews said at the annual 4A’s advertising conference last month, a result like 100,000 views of a YouTube video doesn’t mean very much. “I would confess, though, we look at it: ‘Is that a good number or not a good number?’ ” she said.

Mr. Buchanan said that Electronic Arts would look closely at Web site traffic, advance sales and game sales, along with monitoring how consumers were reacting to the game in online discussions. “We’ll be able to get closer to measuring what’s working and not working, but there’s still a little bit of art in identifying performance in the new media space, versus being all science,” he said.

In print and television, the ads will emphasize the new features of The Sims 3. Along with the town setting and the personality traits, it will be the first time that players can minutely adjust features like the squareness of a character’s chin, the depth of its eyes, or its weight . The campaign’s tagline is “Let There Be Sims.”

•

“It’s referring to the fact that there are almost little people that live in your computer, and because of these new personalities and traits, they have a life of their own and do what they want,” said Aaron Allen, a creative director at Wieden + Kennedy, which created the print and television ads. One TV ad shows a house on fire and people stealing a television — to appeal to the subset of Sims players known affectionately as deviants — and then, for the romantics, a couple finding one another.

“The Sims is all about the characters, and it’s characters that are written into the game and characters you create, and every interaction you have, you get a different response,” said Ian Schafer, the chief executive of the digital-marketing firm Deep Focus, which did not work on the campaign. “That’s the beauty of the game, and that’s the beauty of the campaign,” He said.</div>

ok i'm on amazon.com looking at reviews of the sims 3. and it has way more 1 star reviews then any other group. it seems people are pissed about the lack of items that are included with the game, one reviewer actually states that the game doesnt even come with the hot tub. saying that you have to buy it off the ea store. i knew ea was going to sell somethings on its site but come one, the hot tub? another reviewer doesnt even call it a sequel to the sims 2, he calls it a sims game done for consoles.

The Sims 3 is one best reviewed games in the franchise.

Theirs no HotTub on the The Sims3 Store. Development tools will be out shortly for the modders &amp; item creators, Clothing Designers. Item wise it's 1:1 when comparing it to The Sims 2 Base game.

Most of the reviews were done by people that have no clue what their talking about. Who ever made the statement The Sims for Console is a moron.

Wii version does count since it was developed along side the PC version.

If you want to play The Sims 3. Should play it on the PC. I will bet the Console version will be watered down for it to work on the console. Half the content that PC version has will never make it into the Console version.

Plus the Console version will not have access to TheSimStore or The Exchange.

Xbox 1 Sims was a complete mess. Plus you had loading Screens ever where. The Urbz was fun atlease the DS version was.

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">The Sims 3 expands this fall with The Sims 3 Late Night Expansion pack, plunging your Sim into the active downtown nightlife, or letting them explore their darkest fantasies as a Sim vampire. That's right, Sim vampires. According to EA Play's Rod Humble, speaking at the EA Studio Showcase today, the supernatural mods for The Sims franchise have always attracted a lot of attention from fans, so the next expansion features an entire vampire culture system, with all the rusted bells and low, eerie whistles.

But what if you abhor the undead, like a normal person? There's still plenty for your Sim to do late at night.

"The community has been very vocal about unleashing their Sims in more interesting and unpredictable social situations," said Scott Evans, General Manager of The Sims Studio at EA. "The Sims 3 Late Night is full of ways to approach a rich, new life beyond a Sims' normal day, such as schmoozing with celebrities on the rooftop of a skyscraper, wooing the crowd with your Sim's band, or being the best bartender in town at the hottest new lounge."

Finally, a chance for me to get denied entry to the hottest clubs without having to leave the comfort of my home! If you need me, I'll be hanging out at the Sim dive bar. The people are nicer there anyway.

The Sims 3 Late Night Expansion is due out for the PC this fall.</div>

Last two weeks of October had allot of releases. I still need to pick up Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. Going have to wait until I finish some games I have now.

I'm still working on Dragon Age atm. Once I beat that I can truly start to play all the fall titles.

a Side note, Install the game to the HDD. From my understand their are two loading screens which can take a bit(during the Start-up &amp; than loading a saved game). After that it should be loading Screen Free.

Wonder what Content Consoles versions will get. Will it get any of the expansion Packs?

For those picking up the game I suggest disabling Karma Consequences. Unless you want to replace your household equipment ever 3 to week and half(In-Game). Their are random earthquakes.

<hr class="bbcode_rule" />

Those going for Achievements Disable Aging.

<hr class="bbcode_rule" />

Also do Not enable Twitter unless you want your twitter to be spammed with Sims 3 updates. Ever time you do something major in the game.

Tip for those going for trying to get the Work Best-Friends. Make sure you get both to Best Friend status at the same time. Don't get one to best Friend &amp; forget about the other one. After x amount of time passes, Best Friends Status changes to old Friends Status. Achievement will become unobtainable, unless you switch careers.

PC will always get priority. PC Version already has 3 expansion packs out. It might take them a bit of time to port them over if the console gets them.

PS3 version has started to get some DLC from EA Exchange. Hasn't seen anything for the 360 yet.

Their will never be a Ultimate Edition. Since Sims store Updates ever month with new content. Looks like consoles version will follow a similar path.

Some of the hair looks to be from one of the more recent updates. It couldn't have been on the disc. Since content wasn't ready when the Sims 3 went gold.

Also you can blame MS as well. Not allowing EA to use their own Store. When you buy The Sims 3 PC. You get allot of free Sims 3 content from the EA Sims Store, plus 1000 Sim Points to buy whatever you want.

I going base this off PC version, Since I haven't played the 360 version in ages. Both Bars must be over 80%(Maybe it's 90 to 100%) to get married, You can start dating each other much earlier.

The Stages are

- First Kiss with That Special Someone

- Starting Dating (boyfriend/girlfriend)

- Engaged

- Finally, Get Married

It is this type of open-ended gameplay that inspires endless creative possibilities. In addition the new goals and rewards systems will give players of all kinds from core gamers to storytellers the ability to enjoy long-term gameplay”.

After the official The Sims 4 release date is announced, you will also find out more about the awesome new features the game includes. By now, we know only some of The Sims 4 features which you can check out below.

Open Subhoods – Explore and also Vacation Freely

Discover different places with your Sims! The new easy subhood buildings allow your Sims to walk freely through a number of different subhoods and also visit their loved ones or friends. This amazing new feature also allows you not only discover other Sims homes, but even to travel abroad to new places like Logan’s Isle.

Create A Sim – Create Any Sim or Creature You Want

We all expect to find out The Sims 4 release date and to get the fantastic new features like Create-a-Sim. The new Create-a-Sim interface will include simple-to-use design tools that let you make really detailed Sims that are much more realistic than ever before. Thanks to this feature you can easily customize any Sim you can imagine. Moreover, you can create Witches, Fairies, and also BigFoot.

Just like in The Sims 3 for iPad (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-sims-3/id317904170?mt=8), you can customize the hair style as well as select the skin tone. With all these options you can easily create a Sim that looks like you, someone you want to look like, or even someone who only lives in the myths.

Weather System – Every Day is an Unpredictable Day

Wow, this new feature is really awesome, as there has never been anything like this before. Now your Sims will have not only warm summer days, but every day will be unpredictable. They will be able to go skating on an ice rink, play snowballs and even make snow angels in winter; swim in the pool, play Marco Polo and avoid the heat in summer.

Each season shows up in a different way providing beautiful visuals of weather effects and seasonal changes such as rain, snow, hail, lightning and even more ensuring an original gameplay experience for many seasons in the future.

So, whatever The Sims 4 release date will be, we will wait for it anxiously.

a Big announcement for The Sims franchise is set for latter today. Rumors Suggest it's going to be The Sims 4. If it is The Sims 4 I hope they don't pull Always Online DRM BS they pulled with Sim City.

It's Official

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">"Hi everybody. My name's Nicole. I am so excited to talk to you guys today, and to welcome each of you into our inner circle here at Maxis, because you guys are our VIPs. You are the ones who made this The Sims 3 such a wonderful demonstration of player-driven creativity, and so I'm here to give you big news today.

http://i.imgur.com/EmKvUEe.jpg

And like we mentioned, we've seen speculation on the internet over the weekend and there's tons of theories about what we're announcing today, but you are the first people to hear the news. Today, in just under three hours, we are formally announcing that we're developing "The Sims 4."

So, the Sims is fueled by the passion and creativity of our millions of fans around the world, and we make The Sims because of you guys. It's your continued devotion to The Sims that inspires us every day and gets us here, on the team at The Sims Studio, creative.

We're working hard to make The Sims 4 the best Sims game yet, and we're looking to bring the biggest critical component to the dev process, which is you. So we're relying on your passion and your expertise to help us make The Sims 4 even better. And, it's to bring each of you into the mix early and often, so you have insider access to the game that we're making.

And I want to make it clear right now that with The Sims, it's fans first, all the way. In fact, we have not yet spoken to the press. You are the first people in the entire world to find out more about the team making The Sims 4, as well as our vision for the game.

So first of all, I want to tell you about the team behind the scene. We have over 100 people working on The Sims 4, and many of them are the names that you recognize from The Sims 3. Some of them are even members that extend all the way back to the first Sims.

One of our producers is Lindsay Pearson, and she's been with The Sims Studio for ten years now. She's worked on a variety of The Sims projects from the original Sims, to The Sims 2, and The Sims 3, and Lindsay's been a key driver behind not only The Sims base game, but subsequent expansion and stuff packs as well. And we just feel so lucky to have her on this team.

Our audio maestro is Robbie Crocker, and I hope you all know his name, because he's been with The Sims since the very beginning. Robbie was one of the original creators of "Simlish," which I think is the coolest thing ever. He is just such a cool guy. And it's Robbie more than anyone else, who has helped shaped the sound of our in-game language and music, and I can't wait to hear what new sounds he's going to be making for The Sims 4.

I could throw a ton of names at you guys, Kevin Hogan, Kevin Gibson, Josh Hendron, Samantha Mizelli, Grant Vo{inaudible}, and these are some of the names you already know and love, and these are some of the people you'll be meeting and talking to, in the months to come.

As for me, I've been a huge fan of The Sims since the first game, and personally I've jumped at the opportunity to work on one of my dream projects. I love games, I've been in gaming forever, and I'm so excited to be here to bring our team's vision to life for The Sims 4. I'm impressed daily by the depth and knowledge of the studio team members, and I'm very much looking forward to the day where I can introduce all of you to some more of them.

So, why now? Well for The Sims 4, we took a look at the history of the series, and we pinpointed what we believe is the core of the experience. When the original came out in 2000 it was like nothing before it, it was just fascinating look into the world of The Sims, those little people that we've come to love so much, and then three years later came The Sims 2, and it introduced wonderful concepts like generational gameplay, a big fan favorite, and of course, little people in 3D.

Then The Sims 3 came out in 2009, and with the introduction of traits we added even more personality to those little people. So at the very center of every game are "the sims." And that's what our fans love, and we know that because you tell us that, every day. So we're listening to our fans like you, and we're going back to our roots—"the sims" themselves.

We felt it was important to unlock new ways for your sims to interact with one another, so we're focusing on the complexity of sim-to-sim interactions, and the way your sims behave. New breakthroughs in technology are letting us give you the coolest sims ever. And today we're giving you an exclusive image that will provide some clues into what's new and exciting about The Sims 4.

We're not quite ready to spoil it for you yet, but when we are I promise it will all make sense.

We're also making some big improvements to CAS [Create-a-sim] and Build / Buy [modes], and I think you'll love the changes that we've made to each of our tools. We couldn't be {inaudible} about the news, and what all our fans around the world have to say, because you know this studio loves reading your articles, and we've spent tons of our lunchtimes on your sites, and we're probably some of your biggest fans.

So I want to tell you one more thing, you are the influencers who will help shape our game. You guys are the ones we will be reaching out to on a regular basis. And we want your input. And, I have to say we're so impressed by the amount of creativity throughout all that you're doing out there. {inaudible}, your videos are amazing. It's just that the time and the creativity is absolutely amazing. And Curtis, O M G bravo!--over 42 million videos viewed on YouTube--wow! Incredible! Greg, your worlds are unbelievable, really amazing work, especially since {inaudible}. And Kristin, your tutorials are appreciated by so many of our players, thank you.

So I know I'm not mentioning all of you and I apologize, but we are looking forward to meeting each and every one of you, {inaudible}, I can't wait to see you in person in the near future. So, on that subject, we have a big event planned later this summer, and we want you to be a part of it. We're going to be getting in touch with you soon, but all I can say right now is you might want to think the third week of August open on your calendar, please trust me it will be worth it, book your time off now, and to finish I want to say thank you for being the best fans in the world, because you are. And from this point on, you're part of a special group that we're calling "YISM," and a "yism" is Simglish for "best friend." We'll be coming back to all of you "yisms" soon, and for now, thank you for joining me on this conference call. There is much more to come and I look forward to meeting you, thank you."

"This is Rachel. I have some really amazing news coming from The Sims Studio. The Sims 4 is coming to PC and Mac in 2014, and just to {inaudible} what {inaudible} said earlier, we want you all to be a part of this team. Just to recap, here are a few reminders: an email will be coming to you in just a few minutes. It includes the very first asset from The Sims 4 that will give you a little sneak peak into the future of this game. You all are the very first to receive this asset, and it's exclusive for the next three hours. Feel free to share this right away with fans, friends, and followers, and then be sure to mark you calendars for the third week in August. We are planning something big, and we want you to be able to be free and experience it with us. Thanks again for joining today, you are an amazing group and we look forward to sharing more information with you in the future."</div>
