In other words: The game was completely unplayable using the 360 controller, so we had to add a shoot for me feature.

Re: [E3 2008] - Fallout 3

Most they guys I play with over here don't even consider the PC as a viable gaming platform. Therefore if I want to keep making them cry over our gears matches, I have to stick with the console. That and from time to time there are a few great titles released regardless of how horrible everything else is. Titles in which aren't very popular over on the other side. Meaning absolutely no online play or community backing. Such as fighters and what have you.

I could list more, but then I'd run the risk of contradicting all my other current posts on the forum. So I'll stop here. Hope that clears things up.

PC is a very viable platform for me. Where all the good RTS and Sims games are. Console RTS are always watered down and slow. RTS I play are always very fast paced and need to be in control. with a click on a mouse I can go from Base A to Base B. Console version always takes ages to get from Point A to Point B. One reasons why I refuse to play RTS on the console. You need a keyboard and mouse. Don't know why MS or developers don't add support for these.

Yes, because playing shooters with the 360 controller has always been a thing of beauty... No it wasn't a joke. Yes shooters are unplayable using any console controller, and there is no argument there. Just forward to 2:17 on the video in the 4th post and you'll get a taste of what the easiest shot on the planet feels like with a thumb stick.

There is a difference between this vault-tek assisted targeting system feature and aim assist. Just because you're unable to play FPS on a console does not mean they are unplayable, it just indicates you lack any kind of skill. No one will argue that the mouse offers more presicion, but that doens't mean a console controller shouldn't be used.

Actually there have been plenty of articles and reports on this where players using a controller have kept up with players using the mouse and KB just fine.

Well for someone without any skill it must of been quite the feat to be ranked in the top 30's on GoW for almost the entire first year after it's release. Even doing so I wouldn't and never will say it's playable. A form of torture I can handle, sure. Though that's as far as I'd go with "compliments".

Agreed, no one in their right mind would ever argue that. Though unfortunately for us you're not so right in the head. As can be seen by your argument against the precision of the m&amp;k combo below.

The only article that comes to mind was the one that was done for Shadowrun. It was said that the 360 controller touting players had beaten out the mouse and keyboard users in their competition. Unfortunately though, what they forgot to mention was how badly they butchered PC controls on that game. Whilst at the same time giving 360 users vault-tek targeting... I mean aim assists and the like.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

A troll post would of consisted of unjustified insults toward the game. After teaching you both on the subject of how point and click actions are impossible with thumb sticks, and when to know you're being had in the form of an article, you'd think you'd be just a little bit more appreciative. I guess not though, huh?

Also, any evidence I put forward should be disregarded immediately, as Xenos the almighty finds it unfit to be proven wrong. What's next? It didn't happen unless pics?

Re: [E3 2008] - Fallout 3

Has Bethesda ever made a bad game? Every game I played from Bethesda has been a great and amazing game. I have faith they will nail this game. Don't judge game from a 10 minute demo. Like many previews say you can't really seem all what the game has to offer in 10 minutes. Fable 2 is another example can't show all that game has to offer in 10 minutes.

My question now is. Is any one buying the LE or that legendary Edition from Amazon.com(that one that comes with a clock).

Bought the LE guide and Collectors Fallout last night/this morning. Only ment to play about 30 mins started at 1:45am. Forces myself to stop around 3:00am because I had to be to work by 8:15am. VATS is crazy, sick, nasty, badass. I can not wait to play more.

I'm done. I have all the games I wanted this year. All are gonna take upwards of 400hrs to play through quite fully. It's been a great year for gaming. The best part is when I'm done with St. Row 2, Too Human, Far Cry 2(may never finish. I plan to dive into map making) Fable 2 and Fallout 3 there will a ton of used games for me to snap up for cheap. Peace.

I was going to ask how do you find time to play all those games fallout lol

I'm in the same boat but because of $$ issues instead of just the usual time restraints. I had to spend over $300 for a new suit recently and that has eaten into my gaming budget. =( Now I'm going to wait until December to pick up Fallout, planning to get Left 4 Dead and Gears, but I'm leaving behind Banjo, Tomb Raider, Last Remnant, Mirrors Edge, and more for a later date when I have more of both time and money.

With me (hopefully) starting my internship soon, I'll have even less time. Why couldn't this be a horrible year for gaming? =p

I have enough money for 2 more games as of now. Plus don't think I could play all the games if I bought all the games I wanted.

I just bought LBP and barely touched it, now Fallout 3 is out. Which is a good 100+ hour game.

Going with Tomb Raider: Underworld and Red Alert 3. I wait to read some reviews on Banjo(since I been hear some bad things about it recently) &amp; Mirrors Edge. Than I'll decide if I'll rent them or buy them in December/January. Plus February/March are going be very busy months for game releases.

Yes it's better than Fable 2. Even though I could only play about 5 hours. It's was allot better than Fable 2. Your in a true sand box game. Fable 2 is very linear. In reality their two different games. One is all colorful and happy(Fable 2). Fallout 3 your is a screwed up place, where the next turn could be your last.

in Fallout 3 your decisions do have ramifications. Example theirs about a dozen side quest in Megaton. However if you decide to blow Metaton up all those sidequests are gone forever. Include all the shops in megaton.

Fable 2 - about 25 hours(with all side quests)

Fallout 3 - 60 to 300 hours(with side quests)

Re: Official Fallout 3 Thread

Well I'm about 9 hours in and I've only done 3 main quests.

It's full of "oh shit" moments and so far the story is awesome. My brother is a little farther than I am and said it gets even sicker.

I really was kinda just expecting a good game but man, it's so awesome. I get sucked it for a couple hours at a time and it's hard to put down. Running out of things to do in the game is not going to be a problem at all.

Fable 2 was a really cool game. I liked it a lot. But, if I had to get one or the other, it is no contest. Fallout 3 hands down.

If your looking for a game that will hold you over for a good long while and be entertained the whole time playing, definitely pick up Fallout 3 with no regrets.

Just don't go in expecting it to play like Call of Duty. The V.A.T.S. system is awesome, works well, and actually very entertaining to use.

Can't wait to get back to it later.

aiming is fine, that someone is most likely trying to play the game like Halo 3. This isn't a Halo FPS. Remember this is a RPG based around shooting. Your stats dictate your skill while shooting.

If you ever played Mass Effect you get the basic Idea how guns will feel. At the start you have a ok shot. by the time you hit level 60, you can hit any target you want very easily.

Re: Official Fallout 3 Thread

This is true. The gun play in Fallout 3 is definitely not on par with say, Call of Duty or Half Life.

But, I will say this. The first is that the gun play is okay on it's own. You will run into times were it is your only option. The V.A.T.S. system uses what are called action points that you recharge over time which you use more or less of depending on which body part you are aiming at. It recharges pretty quick, but very often you will run out and have to use straight gun play. The aiming is competent and works just fine, but like mentioned above, it is not of the same caliber of COD or Half Life.

The other thing is that, V.A.T.S. is so freaking awesome it is what you will <u>want</u> to use the majority of the time because it works so well and feels so right for this game.

I, like many before playing Fallout 3, saw the V.A.T.S. system as something I would possibly tinker with here and there when the mood were to strike me but generally would stick to normal shooting. However once I used it, it's hard to imagine playing the game without it. It feels really good and is extremely satisfying.

I know it probably isn't for everybody, but I think once you try it you will fall in love with it. It's just giving it that try.

I finished the main quest a couple of days ago and I gotta say so far, its definitely my game of the year so far. It's just so fun to play. I loaded up my last save before my final mission and am going back to the side missions and they are just as fun as the main quest. Awesome game.

I'll wait to talk about anything to in depth until a few more people get a little farther.

Hit the level 20 cap tonight. Kinda miss not getting XP already. During the load screens though in the bottom, there is a bar showing your progress from Lvl 20 to 21, you just don't gain any XP. Maybe in DLC we'll see a higher level cap.

I really love this game though. Still going through the side quests I have left. I have put in about 40 hrs. Definitely on my Top 3 of 08, pretty high up and favorite games of all time too.

Can't wait to see what they have in store for DLC.

Rest before going on a quest. Invest some points into medicine. If you come across a bed during your quest and it can be used. Use it, it will restore everything.

If you kill a animal, ghoul or person check for food or other items. also don't sell food, always keep a good supply of food on you.

Theirs countless beds throughout the entire game. If their a raiders you can almost bet theirs some kind of safehouse near by. Ever City has a Common House which you can Sleep for Free or you can buy a room at a local Bar/Hotel.

no, Since their 3 set of achievements to Good, Evil and Natural Karma. You can get everything else if you set your character up correctly and you don't kill selected characters. If a certain character dies that tied to a side Quest. Side quest will be killed off. Example if you nuke Metaton the Survival Guide Side Quest can not be access anymore.

Check my Fallout 3 list and you will get an idea what achievements you can get on one play though.

Fallout 3 Xbox Live DLC Q&amp;A

Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage Reader Q&amp;A

GameSpy's readers dig deep and ask Bethesda's Jeff Gardiner some crucial questions regarding the impending DLC pack.

http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/fallout-3/946136p1.html
<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Jeff Gardiner: Well, being pre-war, Operation: Anchorage has a very unique place in the Fallout lore. You have to remember the state of the country before the bombs dropped. This is an America with very advanced technology, but with the styles and sensibilities of the 1950s and early 1960s. People are totally paranoid about communism, and rightly so. I mean, the Red Chinese have just invaded Alaska! So for us, the irony and humor translate very naturally. We play on that fear, we play on that sort of over-the-top military theme. There are definitely some subtle shades of "Doctor Strangelove" there. But we never went overboard with any overt humor in Fallout 3, and the same is true for Operation: Anchorage. It's subtle, and often dark, and for us, that's really the right tone.

GSpy Reader: From the screenshots of the DLC there appears to be tank-like vehicles. Will we get the chance to utilize stationary or free-roaming vehicles of any type?

Jeff Gardiner: Operation: Anchorage does include a fictional tank as an enemy. The "Screw Tank" will not be usable by the player, however!

GSpy Reader: Will the Operation: Anchorage content be open-ended like in Shivering Isles, or will it be a wholly linear experience akin to not-so-notable downloadable content we've seen from other games?

Jeff Gardiner: Operation: Anchorage is a more linear experience. However, there are decisions to be made within the scope of the content itself. The player has the choice on how to outfit their strike team. They also get to decide how to approach and subdue the Chinese Stronghold, as well as how and if they'll help the Brotherhood Outcasts. Subsequent DLC, The Pitt and Broken Steel, will contain more open-world gameplay.

GSpy Reader: Are there any new creatures, and are they attuned to the frosty environ of Alaska (polar bears for example)? Since this scenario is pre-war, the creatures should not be byproducts of radiation I presume...

Jeff Gardiner: The focus of Operation: Anchorage is a simulated military combat exercise. Hence, it will not feature penguins or polar bears! But no, no new creatures. Some new enemies, but not creatures.

GSpy Reader: Will there be items we will be able to take back into the regular game or will everything stay in the simulation?

Jeff Gardiner: Depending on the player's choices, new technology discovered in the simulation will be available once the simulation has concluded...

GSpy Reader: How many hours will the Operation: Anchorage DLC be, and can we see Russia from our base?

Jeff Gardiner: Operation: Anchorage will last from four to six hours depending on playstyle. Any of the weapons or armor the player is able to acquire in the simulation can be used elsewhere in the Fallout world. Despite what some may think, Russia is a bit too far away to be seen from this point of Alaska. ;)

GSpy Reader: Will there be any changes to the UI (the main menu) so that we can manage multiple characters more easily? As of now you just get one long list of save games, which is not very organized.

Jeff Gardiner: No, there are no changes to the way save games work. The game doesn't differentiate between different characters you've created when listing save games. Sorry.

GSpy Reader: Will we see more armor types besides the ninja suit recently shown in pictures?

Jeff Gardiner: Several pieces of our armor have been "Winterized" to fit into the Alaska setting. Much of the armor and weaponry has also been cleaned up so it doesn't look as if it's been ravaged by time.

GSpy Reader: Will there be weather effects? It never seems to rain in post-war DC.

Jeff Gardiner: There are lots of new effects, and of course there will be snow, but it will not be falling from the sky in the simulation.

GSpy Reader: Are there any new additions to the combat system/skills/perks?

Jeff Gardiner: We've added new perks but the combat system as a whole will stay the same. Within the simulation weapons will be at maximum condition and there are ammo and health dispensers, which do change the feel of the game quite a bit. It allows the player to have fun and not worry so much about resource management.

GSpy Reader: Fallout Nerd Question: Will there be an explanation given for why T-51b is in use in Alaska rather than a variation on the T-45b? Aren't the Power Armor suits in Fallout 3 supposed to be the original, older models?

Jeff Gardiner: As this is a combat training simulator, the creators of the simulation didn't design it to be 100% historically accurate!</div>

Obama Inaugural Via Fallout 3

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/01/20/barack-obama-inauguration-site-rendered-via-fallout-3/

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Barack Obama becomes the United States of America’s 44th President today, or hadn’t you heard? Video games aren’t expected to play much of a role — if any — in the Inauguration Day festivities, but video games are still an ideal way to get in Obama’s shoes for a glimpse of what the new President is seeing today.

***

Video games are an under-used tool for understanding current events. Let’s change that and use the most graphically realistic version of Washington, D.C. ever created to get an enhanced perspective of today’s Inauguration Day, shall we?

Slight problem: the best representation of Washington, D.C. and the National Mall in video game history involves a richly-rendered post-nuclear-war version of the nation’s capital circa the year 2277.

So, through the magic of last year’s multi-million-selling “Fallout 3” we can see Barack Obama’s Inauguration-day perspective. But we’ve got the added (subtracted?) touch of nuclear devastation.

Try not to let it bother you.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dc3.jpg

Here’s the National Mall as viewed from the top of a bombed-out Washington Monument. The Mall is a stretch of land the runs from the Monument to the U.S. Capitol. “Fallout 3″ players can reach this location by traveling to the “Washington Monument” marker on the game’s map, passing a security checkpoint and taking an elevator to the top. In real life, the Mall, is currently filled with hundreds of thousands of people.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dc2.jpg

Heading down that elevator lets us see the mall from a ground view, beyond the fictional security wall out to a Mall that isn’t lush with grass and packed full of Americans. Instead, in “Fallout 3,” it’s patrolled by enemy super-mutants.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dc7.jpg

At the end of the Mall is the U.S. Capitol, which is in better shape in real life than it is here. Obama’s Inaugural stage will sit nestled between those two staircases. (I shot this image when the game’s internal clock was set a few minutes before noon, hopefully matching the time of day when Obama will be sworn in.)

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dc4.jpg

This is one possible Obama view. I climbed the Capitol and stood at its first tier of balconies, overlooking what’s left of the National Mall. You can get here by traveling to the U.S. Capitol marker on the “Fallout 3″ map, but what you can’t do is stroll up there easily. The area is swarmed by very powerful enemy factions.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dc5.jpg

Here I got myself one level higher (had to take care of a super-mutant) and am approaching the edge.

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dc8.jpg

And this is one last view. Imagine making a speech to hundreds of thousands of cheering Americans here. Just imagine doing it before “Fallout 3″’s nuclear apocalypse.

Like me you will probably see today’s Inauguration via television, which will provide even better viewes of the nation’s capital than this photo tour of what I saw in “Fallout 3″ this morning. But gamers and non-gamers alike would be well-served to step into virtual recreations of important places like this if only to get a little extra perspective that sitting in front of a TV can’t give you and that in real life you can’t always stroll up to.

“Fallout 3″ gamers, if you have time today, walk in Obama’s steps. It’s an interesting experience.</div>
</div>

I found the White House. And Cheney. :p

Bethesda Softworks has confirmed to GameSpot that the next two Xbox 360 and Games for Windows-exclusive updates for the award-winning role-playing game have been delayed by about a month.

"The next DLC for Fallout 3, The Pitt, will be out in March," Bethesda vice president of marketing Pete Hines said. "Broken Steel will be out the following month, in April."

The Pitt takes place in the raider city that has sprung up from the ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Players will be forced to side with a faction in an unnamed conflict plaguing the town, details about which were not released.

[WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD]

Broken Steel has players join the benevolent, knightlike Brotherhood of Steel to track down the remnants of the nefarious patriotic pretenders known as The Enclave. It extends the main storyline beyond the climactic battle in the mission "Take It Back," after which the game currently ends.</div>

Although Pittsburgh was not hit directly by an atomic bomb, the surrounding water became radiated making the people change in bad ways. As a result, Pittsburgh's industrial district is an abandoned steel yard divided into two major areas: the downtown, occupied by slaves; and the Haven, a zone ruled by their masters. Apparently The Pitt will be accessed via underground railroad.

The magazine also revealed the first info on what will players will have to do in The Pitt. A new major quest will have players taking on the role of a slave who must investigate if rumors of a cure for mutation has been found by no other than the Raiders boss.

One screenshot in the article also revealed the "Auto Axe" weapon, which features circular blades on some sort of motor that you swing.

yes dogmeat can die and rather quickly too. He's a Easy target for Enemy AI. Any partner that joins you can die in battle.

Also here is a quick tip Do not Sell or drink the Quantum. Save ever bottle you find. Since they are limited and they come into play during a certain quest.

Their are certain partners who are very skilled. Jericho being one. You can only obtain him if you have bad karma. Sydney is also decent if She doesn't die due to the bug in the game.

revan you were so right. the very first major place on city/ruins and we got jumped by a group of raiders. it was like 6 of them. dogmeat and i took out the 4 of them but the last two double teamed him. all of a sudden i get a message saying he's dead. so after i finished the other two raiders, and cried a little, i restarted the game.

Ok. I don't know if you know this so...

A. Dog meat is cool but I always let him die. Reason being if he does you can get a second human follower. I have two right now. A certain slave girl and Jericho.

B. You can't up there stats but you can give them better armor and weapons. Remember to all so give them the correct ammo for said weapon. Don't forget to give 'em stimpacks. Oh yeah the slave girl is a beast with melee weapons.

C. Followers can wear power armor from the jump. So as soon as you find some or kill some people with it put on your follower. You will have a tough time getting them killed unless you stumble upon Old Olney unprepared...

More questions just fire away...

The best way to make caps IMO is go hunting. By that I mean just explore. There is a nice started dungeon right outside of Megaton. Springville Highschool or something like that. There's a raider in there with an assualt rifle so happy hunting. Kill Kill Kill then repair all the armor and weapons and sell away.

That dude outside is homeless and you'll find him in several other locales. His purpose is a quick and easy way to make positve Karma... you know... to bring you back from the darkside.

and if the homeless dude is a way to get good karma, is an easy way to get bad karma? you know, just in case i wanted to swing that way, which i don't. i disarmed the bomb.

Quick bad Karma... yes. Find a computer terminal that shows red when you focus on it and attempt to hack it... back out and repeat until desired level of evil is aquired...

Most dungeons repopulate after a few days. Time to go back to school...

Just go into any town and start shooting people in the head. Like megaton. Than once everyone is dead than Nuke Megaton. Double Bad Karma.

As for caps their everywhere. Since you can get ammo just about everywhere. I had tons of caps early on in the game. Theirs also people you can trade metal for caps or other items.

ok i think i broke my game. i was out explorering near the capital (killing a few super mutants) and i level up to level 7. so i save my game after i pick my perk and stuff. as i'm walking along i meet up with another group of brotherhood outcasts. so i follow them like i did the other group. we come up on some raiders, and things go wrong from there. the two raiders take out the three outcasts and my aim is straight off. even using the vats system and making direct hits in the head, chest, and arms i'm doing no damage to them. i even switch weapons to see if i was just that one gun. samething happen. so i reload another save (make sure i have atleast three for games like this), level up again, and run into a different group of raiders and again things are funny. i still cant kill anybody and the bodies that were laying around from a previous killing spree were just blowing in the wind like that cow in the movie twister. after that i got mad and just turned it off. havent been back to it since. any thoughts?

Grab some of the DLC. I suggest grabbing Broken Steel First since it raises your level cap to 30. Once you reach 21 you will not stop gaining XP.

don't forget to Grab some of the more unique weapons in the game. It will give you a edge in the wasteland.

A strange Alien signal is being broadcast throughout the Capital Wasteland, originating from a crashed UFO. Is it a distress call, or something far more sinister? My First 30 Minutes With Fallout: New Vegas

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">The start of Fallout: New Vegas is a good surprise, so stop reading if you don't want even a hint. Not that the first scene of Fallout: New Vegas makes sense (or hasn't been alluded to before). The confusion it elicits is intentional.

The game begins, as I recently experienced first hand, in first-person perspective, the camera pulling back from the Las Vegas stip out into the Mojave desert, where our hero's hands are tied. We are facing three men, one of them in a checkerboard jacket. They are armed. Our courier mission has gone bad and these men mean us harm. We are shot.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/500x_nv1.jpg (http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/nv1.jpg)

When the playable portion of Fallout: New Vegas begins, we wake up in a house. (We've told you about this part before. (http://kotaku.com/5530358/fallout-new-vegas-preview-meet-sunny-dinky--tabitha)) We are being tended to by a helpful man, Doc Mitchell, though the player will rightly feel confused about what is going on. There is no Vault to start this new Fallout, no lengthy locked-room training zone in which we might play portions of our hero's youth as we learn the game and the stakes. In New Vegas we are confined briefly, just enough for the helpful man to double-check what we look like and to ask us a few questions to better understand us. That's all character-customization of course. We are picking and confirming our character's attributes of body and mind in this, the newest of the malleable Fallout role-playing games.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/500x_nv2.jpg (http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/nv2.jpg)

Before leaving the house we may also choose our first Trait, an extra character-defining quality not offered in 2008's Fallout 3. Some of these have pros and cons. For example, "Four Eyes" would give us plus-one to our perception if we wear glasses, minus-one if we don't. An odder one, Weird Wild Wasteland, would turn a lot of the game's cheekier jokes on or off. For example, you can play New Vegas with a willingness to come across a refrigerator that contains a bullwhip and hat — or you can play without worrying about seeing them. The jokes are an homage to Fallout 2, which was also full of pop-culture references to the delight of some fans and the consternation of others.

A producer who is working on the game with development studio Obsidian Entertainment told me I would be free very early in this game. As soon as I stepped outside of the game's few-minute profiling section I could go anywhere I wanted across the New Vegas landscape. This Fallout sequel is less linear than its predecessor, the developer told me. We gamers are expected to wander it and can pursue one of four main paths, allying ourselves with the factions of the game's violent Vegas-area West. We can take the path of the California Republic or of Caesar's Legion or one that has us side with the people of the vibrant New Vegas either with or without its leader, the charismatic Mr. House. There are about 2200 speaking characters to encounter in this game, the producer said, and all but one of them can be killed — and will stay dead — if you choose to be such a brute.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/500x_nv6.jpg (http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/nv6.jpg)

I had about a half-hour to play New Vegas, which is an eye-blink of time for a Fallout game. I had the opportunity to be trained in the gameplay or to wander. The training is optional. An early quest can bring us to a lady who will teach us how to shoot, using the returning probability-based VATS targeting system of Fallout 3, which pauses combat and lets the player select body parts to target. She also instructs us how to use the game's added iron-sights weapon view. Most of this will feel familiar to players of Fallout 3.

New Vegas runs on what seems to be the same technology and functions of Bethesda's in-house-developed Fallout 3. The game systems are mostly the the same. You still wear a Pip-Boy on your arm with displays for your inventory, map and stats, just like in Fallout 3.

I bailed out of training early and walked the desert. We were far from the Vegas strip. I walked down a highway, past a ruined rollercoaster and up a hill topped with towering statues representing an attempt at peace by two of the game's factions. The Mojave desert doesn't have the familiar landmarks of Fallout 3's Washington, D.C., so statues like that help define the terrain. I was frequently accosted by gangs who shot at me; and I found near the statues some guards at whom I shot.

While messing with combat, I learned about a couple of tweaks to the Fallout 3 system. Targeted body parts can sometimes be armored, which is represented by a shield icon. This makes some enemies harder to kill, of course. The item-repair system has changed. Now, from the start, players can combine like weapons and repair them to 100% functionality. If you raise your repair skills in this game you are raising your ability to make better forms of ammo and to slow the degradation of your guns. There are also now potions and poisons that you can make, just as there were weapons to forge in the last game. Weapons are made at workbenches located in the game world; potions and poisions are brewed at campfires.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/500x_nv4.jpg (http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/nv4.jpg)

At the recommendation of the attending developer, I made a turn and walked to a place called Nipton. Here, I was told, I would see how warped the world of New Vegas could be. Weird is right. I found a town taken over by people in wolfskins. Some of the town's citizens were hanging, crucified for uncertain crimes. This wolf gang was too tough for me to fight, but to vile for me to want to leave unscathed.

I did not reach Las Vegas. I did not find out what my courier mission was supposed to be. I did not find the men who shot me. I had barely gotten started. I liked the small tweaks I saw in the gameplay, but, in this my first hands-on with New Vegas, I was struck by how similar the game runs to Fallout 3. New Vegas is a game that doesn't feel like new tech. It feels like new content, a return to the earlier Western U.S. focus of the original Fallouts.

http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/500x_nv5.jpg (http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/9/2010/08/nv5.jpg)

It's hard to predict where this Fallout: New Vegas desert adventure will lead the player, but I like that it starts with a mystery and is open to the discoveries of a wanderer.

Fallout: New Vegas will be out for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October.</div>

Well not so fast Chareece. Why do you play games of this nature? I play for exploration and cool dungeons. Very little reason to explore and dungeons are really short. Worse there is usually nothing cool waiting for you at the end. Now customization is great, combat is tougher, tons of quest(that reward you with nothing to write home about) and 4 different endings. There even made playing a non-death dealing character possible but this is just lacking to me.

From what I played so far. I'm enjoying it a Little more than Fallout 3. It could change as the game goes on. Right now New Vegas has the edge. I haven't run into a single bug yet. Also just started the game. The new title update was already up. Might have removed allot of the bugs you ran into.

This game is starting to drag on. Hopefully I'm near the end of the game already.

Exactly. Something about it is off. I never felt FO3 dragged on or oblivion. I played hundreds of hours of both.

Beat the game, With Yes Man took over New Vegas &amp; Hover Dam. Pushed out NCRLegion. New Vegas become a New Super Power.

Near the middle/End it gets allot better compared to the start. I enjoyed playing it. The level Layout is allot better in New Vegas. Navigating DC in FO3 was a nightmare at times.

Also did a Speed run today with Hardcore Mode on &amp; got the achievement.

It will be announced at the VGA's just like Skyrim was. Development seemed a bit short compared to their other games. Skyrim took five years, Fallout 4 if it's set for 2014 took 3 years.

Started playing Fallout 3 again, One thing I do have to say I do not like any of the armor/clothing in the game, They all look bad. I'll most likely grab the Chinese stealth suit or Ranger Armor.

<hr class="bbcode_rule" />

Side note all DLC for Fallout 3 is 1 dollar this week.

Just not a fan of the design of any of the armor, Skyrim has great design in armor. Fallout not so much.

Broken Steel is a must, Plus It increases the level cap.

Mother Zeta brings allot more Alien weaponry to Fallout

Operation Flashes back to the War.

Now I know why I stopped the last time I tried to play this game. Aiming is horrible (without Vats), game just gets boring after awhile, Navigating DC is beyond horrible.

Not even going to touch New Vegas. Just going to say stay far, far away from that game.

- Their will be 12 companions, most companions will be unkillable.
- You will be able to romance some of your companions. Their is no Gender lock on them.
- Their is a way to play the game without kill a whole lot of people (Stealth).

I love the new loot system menu, no longer does it open another menu, you can take any item on the fly.
