The recent announcement that only 95% of the game would take place during the Third Crusade only fuelled the fire, with people dying to take Altair for a wild ride through time. The only question that remained in their mind was, "When?"

It looks like Amazon has answered their question. Get ready to be mysteriously "sick" come September 25th. The game is available for pre-order on Amazon, shipping on the 25th for both the Xbox 360 and PS3. A date was not revealed for the PC version of the game. Keep in mind that many retailers include release dates as a placeholder. So we wouldn't recommend getting your hopes up just yet.</div>

Better New Assassin's Creed Gallery

http://www.kotaku.com/assets/images/gallery/9/2007/05/medium_480542064_229c1d03a4_o.jpg

Remember those teal Assassin's Creed screens yesterday from CVG? (http://www.onthexbox.com/forum/showpost.php?p=78482&amp;postcount=6) Looks like their may have been something wrong with them. Not only are they not as teal, but they look better when Ubisoft sent the fresh batch, minus the squishing.

http://www.kotaku.com/assets/images/gallery/9/2007/05/medium_480553313_3b0be33665_o.jpg

Here's the explanation:

"The screen shot that appeared online (yesterday), unfortunately, were distorted post-Ubisoft distribution and are not an accurate representation of the game Assassin's Creed.

http://www.kotaku.com/assets/images/gallery/9/2007/05/medium_480553121_9bf6bfdedc_o.jpg

In addition, these screen shots appeared in print magazines in August of 2006 and the game has improved graphically since these screen grabs were taken. We hope this clears up any misperception this may have caused in regard to the quality of Assassin's Creed.

http://www.kotaku.com/assets/images/gallery/9/2007/05/medium_480553011_74a90f2be8_o.jpg

The artists and the entire development team have poured countless hours into creating an unbelievable world which we look forward to unveiling in the near future."

http://www.kotaku.com/assets/images/gallery/9/2007/05/medium_480552919_ba4b4f4cc4_o.jpg

So there you go, don't freak too much.

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Ubisoft's Jade Raymond, whom Famitsu REPEATEDLY refers to as the "beautiful female producer," explains the difference between the crossplatform versions of her upcoming title, Assassin's Creed:

There shouldn't be any differences at all. We're sharing the exact same assets. The engines have the same capabilities. Both systems have different things going for them. With PLAYSTATION 3, currently, you can see maybe a slight difference in some of the textures. With Xbox 360 right now you may see a little bit smoother framerate, maybe a couple more frames per second right now. It's so negligible right now that unless you're sitting there looking at them both side by side, you're not going to see any difference. And that's our goal — to deliver the exact same experience on both of them.

While Jade laments the lack of anything truly "next gen" (AKA "this gen") that's out currently, she says that Assassin's Creed won't take advantage of the SIXAXIS's motion controls. And what about a Wii port? "Totally out of the question," she says. How's that for to the point?</div>

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">One of the 2007's most anticipated games, Assassin's Creed thrusts you into the boots and four-fingered glove of a killer during the Third Crusade. Or is it? Ubisoft Montreal's figurehead for all things Assassin's is Jade Raymond, and she's not yet shedding firm light on the game's setting. Mysterious death screens and other details about main character Altair have led to all sorts of guessing. Comments about "genetic memory" upon player-death perhaps point to some sort of futuristic gene-reading technology, that absorbs recollections from captured genes, and Raymond's confirmed that Altair's no time-traveller. Still, the speculation pales next to the potential fun of hopping across rooftops in parkour-inspired free runs, evading pursuers and taking out your marks with a dagger poking out of your third knuckle. We sat down with Raymond at UbiDays in Paris recently, as you'll no doubt have seen on Eurogamer TV. What follows is the full interview transcript.

Eurogamer: It seems as though we're mainly seeing stuff we've seen before at UbiDays. There's a demo coming in July - can give you us any idea of what to expect?

Jade Raymond: First, [the new trailer] did show off some of the other cities that you haven't seen before. So if you pay attention to the trailer you'll see we showed some shots in Damascus, which hasn't been shown before, and we showed Jerusalem, and we showed Acre. But we're really saving the next big hands-on and demo and live playing and everything else for mid-July, so in the US we're going to have a big event that's assassins-only at E3, and then we're organising a thing also for Europe.

Eurogamer: There's lots of rumours about the storyline. When we interviewed Patrice [D

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">The BBPS recently ran an interview with Mathieu Mazzerole, lead designer of UbiSoft Montreal’s Assassin Creed Project. With the project rapidly nearing completion, the BBPS asked Mazzerole how the 360 and PS3 versions would stack up against each other. The PS3 has been plagued by bad ports of 360 games, however, Assassins Creed does not appear to be one of them. Mazzerole stated “Our goal is to ship the two versions of [Assassin’s Creed] to be within 5% or less of difference between each other”. He then goes on to say that, because of the difference in the hardware, each game will have subtle strengths and weaknesses in comparison to one another.

Another interesting reply he made was in regards to whether there were any benefits to using Blu Ray(50G:cool: as opposed to DVD9(9G:cool:. Mazzerole stated that UbiSoft could absolutely not add anything else to the game, the DVD9 was at its limit. Later, he got back to the BBPS with an e-mail, stating that UbiSoft did not NECESSARILY want to add anything to the game, and that all the NEEDED content fit to the game. This still raises the age old issue, however: Is DVD9 beginning to become a hindrance to the 360? Bizzare, Bioware, Rockstar, Infinity Ward, and now UbiSoft have all made remarks about DVD9 being a limitation to their projects.</div>

I know you're part of this Sony/Blu ray circle jerk but no one cares anymore we've heard it all...What's the point or putting this in here? it clearly says it could be a problem but it isn't because they don't want to add more. Huge games have already come out for the 360 and it's fine maybe blu ray will be needed next gen, but not this one...So case closed, pointless post to bash the 360, congratulations.

LOL, Not a xbot good one, needed a good laugh. HD-DVD should be taking a Piss all over BluRay. However Sales is the most important thing. Guess what BluRay is pissing all over HD-DVD. Here is another Thing. BluRay isn't owned by Sony. It's owned by BDA. Sony only marks up a small part of the group. ReCheck some my post I have posted plenty of negative press about Sony.

No one cares about Space? Than wtf do Developers complain about it? Please just shutup. Interview was about assassins Creed. Not why you think I'm a Sony fanboy. I guess if I posted a Interview stating that 360 had over heating issues you would call me biased and a sony fanboy.

No you posted an article that said space could be a problem... but it isn't one. I don't know what to call that, but if I'd call it anything it would be fuel to the fire. By the way I own all 3 console so I don't give a rats ass who wins or who loses. It just gets annoying, that's what I wrote. It's an xbox forum and you're defending the ps3 at every chance you get...you're preaching to the wrong crowd.

Re: Official Assassins Creed Thread

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Forget what you think you know about Assassin's Creed.

Sure, that's an extremely strong statement to make, particularly if you've been following the game as closely as we have. The upcoming action title, which features an assassin named Altair during the Third Crusade, has been a heavily anticipated action title ever since it made its first debut two years ago. Even the latest demo that we were shown at this year's E3 generated greater buzz, as players tracked down and killed a slave trader. But as we found when we checked out the latest build of the title, Assassin's Creed is much more than killing influential people, climbing buildings and making stealthy escapes into crowds. In fact, Assassin's Creed is designed to be much more of a sandbox-like experience, giving you the freedom to explore and complete missions whenever and however you want. We went to Montreal to check out the latest build, which was going to be shown on the floor at TGS, and found out just how malleable our explorations as an assassin would be.

In the two months since E3 2007, the design team at Ubisoft Montreal has finished the entire game, polishing many more visual details and tightening up the presentation of the title. That might be a bit hard to believe for some, considering how impressive the demo was at E3, but Patrice Desilets, Creative Director on Assassin's Creed, pointed out that the team had included new sound and visual effects, vocal work and additional story details to help flesh out the gameplay. We actually experienced part of this, as we were shown a mission that took place midway through the game where Altair was tasked with assassinating Monfferat, Richard the Lionheart's governor in the rich district of Acre.

As Altair moved through a town square towards a city wall, the game took over and started playing an in-game cinematic. It was still possible to move your way through the assorted crowd members so you could get closer and overhear the heated conversation between the governor and the monarch, but there was another way to experience the scene. Every now and then, the screen would "glitch," displaying a burst of hydrocarbon rings and other chemical model details. By hitting a button during these "glitches," players could switch their camera angles, getting a new perspective on the scene they were watching. We found this could also be applied during the cutscene that followed an assassination, as we watched Monfferat explain his actions to Altair in some striking dissolves and camera transitions as he lay dying.

Elements like this are much more than simply visual tricks or impressive storytelling conceits; a large amount of Assassin's Creed missions will revolve around four separate game phases. The first one will be the acquiring of the initial target, which will involve going to an Assassin's Guild, getting the initial details of who you are tasked with killing and why this person needs to be "pacified." The second phase involves investigation, where players will go around the various districts that they happen to be in, gathering details that they can use to aid them in their goal. The third phase, of course, is the infiltration of a specific location and assassination of your target by whatever means you feel are necessary. Finally, the fourth phase is the escape from the scene of the crime and return to safety at the Assassin's Guild, which allows you to progress further in the game.

We were somewhat surprised that there would be an investigatory phase to the game; up to now, we'd only really been shown accepting the mission, tracking down and killing a target and running for our life. However, this is where the majority of the game's exploration elements take place, and where we found we had to forget what we thought we knew about Assassin's Creed. Part of this was discovering that players have the flexibility to complete missions in any order that they wish, even "abandoning" the current task that they're in the middle of to take on another assassination. Players can even leave a location and travel from Jerusalem to Acre or Damascus, completing those tasks first and returning to earlier missions to eliminate opponents with newer equipment or abilities. You can even travel from one large district of these cities to another, placing the jobs in one area on virtual "pause" until you return and pick back up where you left off. This gives the player a large amount of leeway to define how they'll make their way through the ancient world.

What's more, there will be at least half a dozen tasks that players can take on, all of which will provide some kind of advantage to the assassin over the course of the game. It's rather obvious that the above scene between Monfferat and Richard provided Altair with key information that he could eavesdrop on and use during his mission. But apart from snooping on soldiers and targets, Altair will be able to pick pockets of certain people, gathering vital intel on his targets. Altair will also be able to perform one of two different kinds of "freeing" missions, where you're tasked with saving people being assaulted by common thugs. If you go after the scholars or monks that are being harassed, you'll be able to blend in with them, traveling incognito without any guards paying attention to your actions. On the other hand, if you save some of the damsels that are in distress, they'll call their friends or brothers out of the surrounding areas. These vigilantes are extremely useful, because they'll remain in a specific area, stopping and even grabbing guards that are chasing you. Not only will this give you a chance to perform a free strike on these ensnared enemies, you can plan your escape route through these locations, guaranteeing your success.

Of course, saving these people will involve a hefty dose of combat. Much more refined than the build at E3, the combat system revolves around many more counters and attacks that ever before. Now, players will need to weigh their attack and defensive stances, and pull off quick or powerful strikes against their opponents. Depending on how you string together these moves, you'll create combos that can slash through any defense. Obviously, this helps when it comes to eliminating guards, but there's a side benefit - players will be able to completely demoralize guards if you can pull off a series of combos on surrounding opponents. What's more, if you kill off helmeted or more armored guards (who are more skilled at battle), weaker opponents will sheath their swords and flee in terror of your blade.

In some ways, they should, because the combat has become much more brutal in the two months that we saw it at E3. Not only can players perform leaps onto unsuspecting guards in the midst of battle, quickly eliminating them, but they can also perform backstabs and impaling moves. We also found one of the most brutal moves, as Altair shattered a guard's kneecap. By countering his strong attack and performing a combo, we weakened him long enough to hit the attack button in a quick sequence, allowing our assassin to destroy the joint and leave the guard in a huddled mass. This was frequently enough to make most enemies run. That is, with the exception of the Knights Templar, one of the other side quests. These warriors were the most hated enemy of the Assassins, and after dispatching one in a fierce battle, we noticed that we'd killed 1 of 60. Looks like Altair will be hunting for Templar along with completing his missions…

There will even be smaller, yet more addictive quests that can be accomplished. The one that was surprisingly addictive was the collection of flags that were scattered around the city of Acre. Whenever Altair was nearby, the flag would flash, giving him an indication that he could quickly run over there to collect the item. While we weren't able to collect every one, we were told that acquiring all of them would be extremely beneficial. But what was amusing was finding just how enjoyable this distraction would be. In the middle of scaling a building, you might see a flag and quickly adjust your path to acquire the item. As far as the climbing of buildings was concerned, players have seen some of the incredible views that Assassin's Creed will provide of these ancient cities, but much more than eye candy, these high points will give Altair a much larger sense of the district that he's in, adding to his map and giving him more information on the location of guards and innocent bystanders.

We'll have more on Assassin's Creed shortly, but for now, check out these new screens of the title.</div>

Raymond cited the titles sandbox-style gameplay as the main reason for the decision, stating, "There was no way to really make a demo," adding, "and I think that's the same reason that games like GTA don't have a demo - when you have a city it's hard to figure out exactly what you put on there."

She revealed that a solution to the problem was addressed, but in the end all efforts proved to be ineffective.

Due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Assassin’s Creed takes place in the year 1191, during the Third Crusade. Gamers will assume the role of a consummate assassin named Altair - a member of the deadly Hashshashin sect, whose mission is to eliminate nine historical figures.

Gameplay is completely open ended, and events will change depending on your actions throughout the game as you explore a series of meticulously crafted historical cities and locations.</div>

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Ubisoft has revealed some of the problems is facing to make Assassin's Creed as good on the PlayStation 3 as it is on the Xbox 360.

Patrice Desilets, the creative director of Assassin's Creed, revealed that with the Xbox 360 version the problem is the storage medium. Desilets told Pro-G in an interview that one of the biggest challenges the team is currently facing with the Xbox 360 version of the game is fitting everything into a DVD-9 disc; something that is not a problem with the Blu-ray Disc format used by the PlayStation 3.

However, the PlayStation 3 version of Assassin's Creed is experiencing different issues because of the platform's memory architecture, which-- contrary to the Xbox 360, is not unified but split into 256 MB of main memory and 256 MB of video memory.

Desilets added: "Both have their own challenges. Right now we have a big challenge on the 360 to make it fit on a DVD, to put five languages, to put all the data on eight gigs. On the Blu-ray side we're really good, but then the memory is quite different. How we handle memory is really different between the two machines and we're struggling right now on the PS3. But we have people who are really dedicated and we're having help from Microsoft on one side and Sony on the other side to have the same quality on both systems. It really depends on the week basically as to who's best."</div>

Maxim invites you? does this really mean Jade is doing Maxim or was it just a sponsor?

Why only list PS3? shouldn't 360 also be listed as well?

360 vs PS3

<div class="bbcode_quote">
<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">We all remember the controversy with UbiSoft Assassin’s Creed’s exclusivity. First it was shown off as an Xbox 360 title as Assassin at the X05 event and later confirmed only as a PlayStation 3 title. After, what was known as the worst kept secret in the biz, the Xbox 360 and PC versions were confirmed the question lingered; is there a difference between the console versions?

We had a chance to speak with Lead Engineer for Assassin’s Creed, Mathieu Mazerolle and asked the big question; how do the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions stack-up against each other?

Our goal is to ship the two versions of [Assassin’s Creed] to be within 5% or less of difference between each other. That doesn’t mean the PS3 is 5% “better” or “worse”, it’s really just an approximation and a statement that while the two versions are very similar, there will be (as there always is) small, hopefully inperceptible, differences between the two versions within a very small threshold.

Later adding:

Both machines are very complex and have very distinct strengths and weaknesses, so it’s almost impossible to quantify these sorts of comparisons - we just want to make the game as good as it can be on both platforms, and owners of both consoles will get the same experience from playing [Assassin’s Creed].

At X07 when asked about the benefit of Blu-Ray versus standard DVD Mathieu told us that even if UbiSoft wanted to add a new piece of content to the Xbox 360 version of Assassin’s Creed the DVD version is already at capacity.

When we emailed him for clarification he reassured Xbox 360 fans, saying:

As far as adding extra content, it’s not really an issue: we have all the content we need for the game fitting on a DVD as it is, and the game wouldn’t necessarily be better by just by adding “stuff” on the disk: the biggest limitation for us isn’t disk space, it’s squeezing every last drop of performance out of the processors on both consoles to make the game as cool as possible on the screen!

Keeping all of this in mind lets face it, Assassin’s Creed is coming from one of the most trusted development teams in the world, UbiSoft Montreal. E3′07 wasn’t an especially incredible public showing for the game, but from what we’ve seen; its unique and compelling enough for us to anticipate its November arrival.</div>

I figured I'd get to it eventually, and wasnt really keeping track of the game but now im pretty excited to play it.

During that last 1up yours they said people were pretty slip in the office its was either a very strong love or hate thing so well see who the reviews turn out.

Re: Official Assassins Creed Thread

My friend just got the game last night.

- Detail is amazing in some of the cities

- Each city feels different.

- you don't miss the jump since the auto jump is so greatly done in this game.

- You can climb any building from the start

- My friends about 3 to 4 hours in and only done one main question and rest was sidemissions.

- Game world is massive.

- AI is smart and also dumb at times. AI will chase you across the roof tops. Best part is when Altair ran across the board that connected two houses guards gave chase and they tried to cross the board too buy they fall. Other guards did make it across though. Other part is you get away fast enough and hide in the barrel of hay they will leave you alone and never check it.

- Sword play is sometime way to easy. Can counter almost everything if your good. The one blow to the head and your dead UbiSoft said was in the game last year is no longer in the game.

- You have limited amount of throwing knives around 8 I believe. can get upgrades to carry more.

If anyone got any questions ask. Since I can answer most of them.

<div class="bbcode_quote_head">Quote:</div>
<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Secrets are hard to keep...especially when they concern Assassin's Creed. The developers of the stealthy assassination simulator have tried very hard over the course of its development to guard important information from getting out -- most of it involving plot. The premise of the game has always been that you play as a medieval assassin who must find and kill nine Templars during the Third Crusade. That made sense -- all the early screenshots and trailers depicted a world that looked very much like the Middle East during the Third Crusade. And yes, you do assassinate men who look like Templars. But if that wasn't enough, later demos of the game included a futuristic filter that appeared while targeting enemies. So the game must take place in the future, too, right? The correct answer is "yes," but Ubisoft continued to say nothing, thus revealing a very poorly kept secret.

That's right -- the game takes place in both the near-present day and the during Third Crusade. (Before you start worrying about spoilers, all of this is revealed as soon as you boot up the game.) Big surprise, eh? But I will say that I really dig the Matrix-like take they went with the story. Without giving away too much, you basically play as a descendant of an assassin named Alta

I just got the game and played for about a hour.

The graphics are good when I play on a SDTV, and I wonder how much better it would look in HD.

The gameplay is similar to Prince of Persia, but in only small areas.

I only made to the part where the soliders try to ambush the kingdom and it is a very good game.

All that worries me is the length of the game. Some sites says it takes 50 HOURS if you do every sidequest and find all the flags, while others say the main quest is about 20 hours, which is kinda short IMO.

Can always go back to it after Mass Effect. If you read some of the previews for the upcome Review they said Mass Effect isn't exactly Epically long. They said 15 to 25 hours for Side missions + Main story. Most of us will play though it more than once. So it will add up. I just hope it's better or on the same level as KOTOR.

Well Mass Effect shouldn't be long, especially since it is a trilogy.

Just spend time with each game, that is what I do. Play a day with Assassin's Creed and then a day with Mass Effect and vice versa. You will get alot more games completed that way.

Finished it tonight. What an amazing game.

Honestly I had my doubts and I almost didn't get it, but since I got it last Friday, I haven't stopped playing it.

I enjoyed every minute of it and with the way it ended I'm really looking forward to where the game goes next.

I found this site that give some insight and translations of some stuff you'll find at the end. (Trying not go spoil it)

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175552&amp;site=xbw

Now I'm on to Mass Effect but damn, was that a great ride. I'm 100% positive that I'll play thru this game again and I want to go back and get more flags and all that.

Anyone on the edge though, I'd definently recommend it. One of my favorite games this year.

Ok so Revan, got a question.

When you went back to replay the free missions and get the flags did you just load the last memory block or did you go into each one and get the stuff for those parts of the city.

I'm curious if the flags you get and free mission you complete carry over thru all of them cause I couldnt really tell.

On a side not, are the free missions just the save citizens and view points of are they all the investigations?

Re: Official Assassins Creed Thread

i finished the game last sunday and forgot to type this up.

Good

Interesting story

Great graphics

Combat is brutal

Climbing and running is great

The first 5 or so assassinations are fun

The world is big

Throwing knifes are awesome

Bad

The combat gets repetitive

The investigations get repetitive

The missions get repetitive

The assassinations get reptitive

Climbing and Running get reptitive

Although the story is pretty good, i could care less about any of the characters. Altiair is a dick at the beggining and thats just not fun IMO

The ending (I dont care if it set up for a sequel, it sucked)

NO replay value

Flags are just a useless way the devs tried to keep you playing

NEEDED MORE VARIETY

Overall score...... 8.4 or 8.5 or something. Ill probably write a review of it.

The missions get repetitive later you in the game you get those flag races and stealth assassination missions. which adds some variety

The assassinations get reptitive More than one way to take each one down, It is called Assassins Creed after all. Whole purpose is the kill

Climbing and Running get reptitive that what made the game fun

Learn the counters. Once you master those you will be untouchable.

Long sword - slower, can block easier

Short - Faster, good when fight groups

If you want a real challenge fight with your hidden blade, no blocking, but brutal kills.

<div class="bbcode_quote_body">we told you earlier this week (http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/100/1005354p1.html) that ubisoft (http://games.ign.com/objects/025/025075.html) will be producing a series of short films based around assassin's creed ii (http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/143/14302493.html). Now more details have emerged about the project, including the first pictures, from the la times (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2009/07/video-game-publishers-microsoft-ubisoft-invading-hollywoods-turf.html).

They reveal that there will be three short films, each running at 10-15 minutes long and shot at ubisoft's hybride technologies - the special effects house they acquired last year which did effects work on spy kids and 300.

Yves simoneau is directing the project - called 'lineage' - which is prequel to the game and focuses on the father of game's hero, renaissance assassin ezio.

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/100/1006578/assassins-creed-ii-20090723022517488.jpg

apparently 70 per cent of the 'sets' of the short films - shot almost entirely on green screen - are taken directly from the game. Most of the actors involved in the motion capture and voice-acting are also being used for the shorts.

Ubisoft hasn't given out specific release dates, but says the films will be released separately leading up to the game and then possibly bundled together in a dvd later on.
