<div class="bbcode_quote_body">Right when the Xbox 360 was launched back in 2005 the world was stunned at the new machine’s power being displayed so thoroughly with PGR3. We more or less knew already, that after two editions of Project Gotham Racing on the original Xbox, surely Bizarre Creations would be attempting the same kind of double hit on the Xbox 360? Check inside and judge whether Project Gotham Racing 4 will be leaving the same kind of mark as its predecessor did.

PGR3 was a marvelous game, not only absolutely stunning graphically but also a fast and furious arcade racer with solid online gameplay. It took a while for the first tidbits of PGR4 information to leak, but it wasn’t until September 2006 before a design contest brought proper enough confirmation. Yet despite the fact that the contest is already over again and the winning car was confirmed to enter PGR4, we still didn’t have any real information about the game itself or the other cars. That’s where OXM’s May 2007 issue steps in, with an exclusive first look at the game. Feel free to start drooling on the cover photo, displaying the impressive weather effects in action:

A list of interesting excerpts from the accompanying article:

Enhanced Weather Simulation: “One of the slickest new features in PGR is its weather. Bizarre’s using what it likes to call ‘extreme weather’ for more than just making the sky gray. Water beads up on beautifully on all the gorgeous paintjobs, spray jets out from the tires, and in the in-car view, wipers move and windshields ice up.”

Enhanced Raceway Environments: “A TV-style intro sets up each event, with a commentator offering wisdom…Choppers buzz overhead, camera crews and video vans are everywhere, and hordes of fans line the track. They’ll wear gear with your logo, wave your national flag, and react far more obviously to your performance.”

Extended Car Selection: “PGR4 will deliver a much broader set of vehicles, ranging from a vintage’63 Corvette Sting Ray and the ’54 Maserati 250F to the sleek, ultra-modern Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.”

On the tracks: “You won’t want to miss out on your viewing time with PGR4’s tracks, which tally up to 200-plus in 10 locations.”

On Xbox Live initiatives: “PGR4’s cooking up a mysterious new matchmaking system (like Halo 2’s).”

On in-car view: ” Bizarre has two key improvements in the works. You’ll now see drivers moving more- feeding the wheel as they zip through turns or pumping their fist after a win. Special effects will also crank up the tension in key moments: you’ll get a shake effect at high speeds, and your vision will blur after spending some quality time with a a wall.”

In conclusion: “PGR4 feels hugely promising- like a proper sequel with loads of cool new toys.”

That’s all we managed to secure from the OXM guys, so for the full story and a bunch more you’ll need to grab a copy yourself when it hits stands April 10th.</div>

I think Most Wanted was the best, but really they all kindof sucked. I like more sim than arcade racers. Forza was awesome, but Rallysport Challenge 2 is still one of my favorite racers of all time. Mostly because they had really hard challenges that required good driving to beat. In all the need for speeds you just put all the money possible in your car and the final "boss" is a breeze.

Here are what seem to be the first Project Gotham Racing 4 images to ever be seen. These scans have been taken from a foreign Xbox mag and are legit. As can be see, the weather effects Bizarre promised are ever so present. This title looks to be a must buy.

PGR4 out next winter - first details

http://xbox360.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/59970/302580.jpeg

The first solid details on Bizarre Creations' fourth entry in the Project Gotham Racing series have emerged in the pages of Official Xbox Magazine US.

The biggest feature in the fourth instalment seems to be a whole bunch of fancy weather effects, including water that beads realistically on the paintjobs, sprays from the tires and causes madness in the in-car view.

PGR4 details race into view

Bizarre Creations believes that Project Gotham Racing 4 is the first game in the series that it's really been able to focus on, not having to hurriedly complete it to release with a new console or service.

This time around you'll have more options when creating your driver, which will form the basis of a revamped Career Mode. Your opposing drivers will also now be more charismatic, identifiable by their racing styles and "personalities". There'll also be more spectators who will react better to what's going on around them, and might even wave a national flag or two.

Yeah, that's some cutthroat marketing tactics by Microsoft, isn't it? Kinda like how they're releasing Forza 2 and Shadowrun on the same day in the middle of the Halo 3 beta.

Gotham 4 to Feature Bikes

Spong.com says they have confirmation from both European and American sources, Gotham 4 will carry a vast array of motorcycles from the world's leading manufacturers. Right now, licensing deals are under way and as such, the code recently seen by their spies was displaying bikes on tracks with little in the way of official livery.

Perhaps the best news is that bikes and cars will be competing head-to-head in both on and offline versions of the game. Spong was told the bikes can crash, though this element of the code was not complete so unfortunately, everyone can only imagine the marvellous Road Rash-style mishaps that will result.

We didn't get a look at the livery editor, but we understand it won't be as flexible as the paint/vinyl tools in Forza 2; still, it should be a nice way to give you and your buddies an online identity you can all rally behind. Teams in PGR4 can be made up of drivers who prefer bikes to cars or vice versa, and you'll be able to test your vehicular loyalties on the track, as the game will let you pit cars against bikes in any combination. In the single-player game's career mode, as you rack up some wins, you'll begin to see crowd members wearing your team colors in an indication of your team's growing reputation.</div>

For example, Macau is always in the daytime, but if you play it during a storm everything looks darker and more foreboding. If you play during a blizzard then things are slightly tinged blue and everything seems more frozen. Of course, playing this track in sunshine will make everything appear bright and yellowy.</div>
