Nintendo’s touting the success of the Wii launch in the Americas, saying that over 600K consumers bought the new console in its first eight days of availability; Zelda sells big too.

The game company said that taking into account first-party software and accessory sales, the Wii has become an “instant” $190 million business in the Americas. The console launched November 19.

Nintendo added that in the region, over 494,000 units of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess have sold, which represents over 75 percent of total hardware sales.

In a statement, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime wasn’t shy about the Wii’s success so far. "We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time -- and we still sold out. Given the inclusive nature of Wii game play, we're seeing this new form of video gaming is already a huge hit with gamers and newcomers alike. It continues to be a phenomenal launch."
